The Sad Truth

All this hatred, all this crime,

if only we could go back in time.

When children could play outside at dark

and you could leave your doors unlocked,

but now, instead, as today has proven,

we are no longer safe, people are no longer human.

What is with all these killings?

Am I next? The thought is chilling.

Innocent people, delicate lives,

scared little children, worrying wives.

Why do they do this? How can they laugh?

I can definately say hell is their path.

I'm scared to sleep. I'm scared to drive.

I'm even scared that tomorrow I won't be alive.

What have we done? What have we said?

Who do we blame when all the innocent are dead?

"Why can't we all just get along,"

is how the old saying goes.

Nobody cares, and through most, it doesn't even show.

Remember the days of trips to the zoo,

walks in the park, and ice cream too?

It's almost all gone away now.

It's almost extinct,

our freedom, our safety, our minds are now blank.

How can they be so hateful?

How can they be so cold,

killing all ages from infant to old?

Why can't it be like

in the good old days,

when you walked to church,

and there wasn't any craze?

I've sworn off having children,

I couldn't handle the truth,

that there are such bad people out there,

who have absolutely no couth.

They can't even go to school

and get an honest education

with guns and knives, and bombs,

in my heart there is a laceration.

Our homes are being destroyed.

Our lives are in tangles.

You can't even leave our home,

without fear of being strangled.

What are we to do?

Where are we to go?

We're lost in a world

where people's anger they show.

As sad as it sounds,

as bad as it is,

all I can do

is to listen to what God says.

He will protect us.

He will lead the way.

All we have to do is trust,

though it is hard to, after what happened today.

We can't give up hope,

there are too many lives at stake.

We must all pull together

for our children's sake.

They are the future.

They hold the key

to our world, our hopes,

our wishes, our dreams.
