Day of Darkness - by Marty Ford
Many lives change, one September's day
The roar of engines, flying over the bay
Mornings skies, were awaking from nights eve
A new day was beginning, new dreams for you and me
The tender kiss from a father, off to work that day
Gentle hugs for a child, as you wished them a fun day
A note tucked in a lunch box,' 'I love you, my love''
The phone call you gave, to say you were safe
Next did we know, the horror began
Moments of panic, as ones fears set in
The bellowing black smoke, raged from it's fires
Trapping our loved ones, on floors in the towers
As we watched in dismay, and pain in our hearts
A second plane entered, the south trade towers
Below on ground soil, onlookers watched in disbelief
Calling out in horror, ''Oh no, my God, my God''
The racing gray-smoke, filled the stricken air
As shadows of images, ramble far and near
The ashes fell like falling snow
As heaps of rubble, laid dirty and cold
The cries of help, as ones knew their fate
Their lives were in Gods hands, he was calling them
to come home ,that September's day
We will never forget the Hero's, the strangers
The figures covered in soot and debris
Hoping for a miracle, praying that he finds someone alive
''Please God, let it be''
Smoldering smoke burned deep into the eyes
As fumes from sicken air, laid heavily inside
An heart-rendering site, as we watched loved ones
Clasping hands, praying, falling into the skies
Tear-stained faces, heart-breaking scenes
Moments of silence, as ones listen for a sign
Our Uniformed Hero's ,answering the call
Risking their lives, confronting the unknown
Mixed sounds of sirens, roaring loud and wide
Cries of hope, cries of pain, cries of death
Surrounded the crumple space
As days past, the lives of loved ones were grave
No hope for survivors, wounded hearts, piercing pain
Tears from grown men, as they watched sunken and limp
As small ones were carried away, that unforgetable day
The heart-warming scene, as our flag was raised
In honor, by our Fireman, on ground zero that day
Thru tear-stained eyes, America watched and prayed
The day of darkness, terror in the skies
Will long be remember, shattered hearts, unknown graves.
