Smiling on the Outside by Dori Bushee

Smiling on the outside, she often wondered how many could really see beyond her smile, and know the pain that was there, just beneath the surface, that was slowing breaking her heart.

She always tried her hardest to face the world with a smile, but there were times she too had to give in, and face the reality of her losses, and then the tears would start.

Memories seemed to haunt her, yet bravely she would show the world she was a survivor, by her smile, knowing more often then not, it was not how she felt on the inside.

As she slowly walked along the beach, at the break of another new day, she secretly prayed that this would be the day the pain would finally subside, and free her from within.

Not believing her own eyes, there on the sand, just several feet from her, was one perfect red rose, and it took her breath away, for this had to be a message sent from above, and now she was smiling.

Could it be that her lover knew how much she needed a sign, and that he had left that rose for her to find, knowing it would bring her peace?

Some things are better off not trying to figure out, and instead she would wallow in the pure joy of this moment, thankful for at least a little while, the world would see her smiling both on the inside and the outside at the very same time.
