Standing in the hallway at Rampart, Roy along with Joanne and Johnny waited for any news that would deside Nicci's future. " Hey Roy, don't worry, what ever happens you know we're all here for you buddy." Johnny said seeing that Roy's face was plasterd with worry. " Thanks, Junior I really appreiate that." Just as Dr. Brackett joined them Seeing the look on Dr. Brackett's face Roy hung his head. Barely audiale asked." How far a long is she." " She about six weeks." Brackett said. feeling a certain amount of concern for them Hearing the doctors words Roy embraced Joanne giving into tears. " My God she's just a baby." He sobbed. He could feel his anger rising " I know it's hard Roy and my sympathy is with you." Dr. Brackett soothed." But Roy, she's not a baby. She's a girl that was forced to grow up before she was ready. And now she's going to be facing a dificult road ahead and dicisions that is going to be very dificult and what ever she decides will have serious effects on her future." Brackett ended. He knew that the words he spoke was harsh but equally he knew the words needed to be said. Then placing his hand on Roy's shoulder as a conforting gesture he added." Roy I know of a little girl who is feels so alone and very frightened of what's going to happened. And to be honest I dont think she's strong to handle it by herself. Don't fall apart now, she's going to have many questions and she's going to look up to you for the answers, your going to need to be there for her." Although the doctors words were like a slap in the face, Roy knew that he was right. He couldn't allow himself to be so far in his own grief that he forgot about Nicci and what she will be facing. " Doc, what can we do. She's just to young to be a mother." " Roy there are options out there, I can get you some pamphlets and leaflets on all the alternitives to aide you and Nicci to make the right decision that best fits your situation." Brackett offered. " Now you and Jo go be with your daughter, I'll get those pamphlets and meet you in the room." " Okay Doc, thanks." Roy said as he took Joanne by the hand and headed for the treatment room. Walking into the treatment room, Roy studied Nicci. She looked so small sitting on the side of the gurney dressed in a hospital goun. Even though he was fighting more tears, He knew that the doctor was right, he had to be strong. Feeling his presents Nicci looked up, in tears she asked " Are you mad daddy?" Walking over Roy took Nicci in his arms pulling her close." No Nicci I'm not mad at all, I love you and what ever happens that wont ever change." He finished seeing Brackett entering the room " Roy, here is some pamphlets I told you about. " Brackett said handing the stack to Roy " What pamphlets?" Nicci asked " Nicci you dont have to do this. You have your whole life ahead of you, and lots of things to do before you start your family." Roy said his voice full of compassion. " You're father's right we can terminate this pregnancy." Brackett agreed. " I can call and make you an appointment if you'd like." Hanging her head she knew what was being said to her, and even though in her young life she didn't agree with abortions, She felt that her father knew what was the best thing for her. " Okay." Nicci said in whisper. .......... TWO WEEKS LATER........ " Good morning Junior." Roy greeted his partner Seeing the bounce had returned in Roys step Johnny smile and said " Morning Pally, looks like you're doing better." "Oh I am, Me and Nicci went to the movies and then out for ice cream." Roy said with a smile. " It wasn't like the old time they were better. We talked about Nicci and what she wanted to be when she grows up. You know what she said? She said she wanted to be a paramedic." Roy said with pride. " Nothing like following in her old mans foot steps is there?" Chet added. " So where is she now." Johnny asked " Jo took her to the abortion clinic, She's a little scared but at first but after talking to a counselor she's okay." " That's good Roy." Captain Stanley said pleased at the outcome." Looks like things are finally coming together." ...... Meanwhile....... Sitting in the waiting Room Nicci waited patently for her name to be called. As she sat there she rubbed her delicate tummy. Her mind racing as she thought about her baby and how it wasn't going to get a chance at a good the life one that she was taking away. She was just far along to where she could now feel butterflies. With her tears forming she looked over at Joanne sitting next to her reading a magizine." Jo." Turning her head Joanne instantly noticed the sad and troubled look on Nicci's face." Nicci, what's wrong?" She asked concernly " Jo, I can't do this, I dont want to kill my baby." She said as she quietly" That's what I'm doing you know." She added. Then getting up she ran out the door. ............ " Hey, what are you two doing here?" Roy said looking down at his watch." Did something get messed up with the appointment?" " No, nothings wrong. we were there in the waiting room. " Jo said with a slight grin." I think it's best if Nicci tell you. Nicci , tell your father." " Dad, you said that it wasn't my fault for what happened." Nicci started.." But It's not my baby's fault either. I cant let my baby pay for Rogers sins." She said with purpose. " I have to start thinking of my future and doing what I think is the right thing to do. Killing an innocent human being isn't one of them. Am I scare? hell yes I'm scared I dont know one thing thats going to happen. But I'll okay." She stopped as she feel the life fluttering inside her fragile tummy." She ended Then hanging her head " Are you mad?" Taking in her words a strong feeling of happiness came over Roy. He had never felt so relieved in his life as he did at that moment. To hear his daughters words his heart filled with pride." I'm not mad Nicci, I love you and I'm very proud of you." Roy said. " Are you sure your okay with this?" Nicci looked up in hopes " I'm sure. If you want your baby, I wont stand in your way. It'll be hard, it's not easy raising a child. But you wont be alone Nicci. I'll be here for you when ever you need me." He promised." Now you look tired, you go with Jo and get some rest okay. I will see you in the morning." " Okay but I still need to do something." She said looking over at the rest of the crew of Station 51." I was serious when I said that I needed to start doing things that I thought was right. And one of those things I need to do is apologize to you guys for everything. I hope that you guys one day will find it in your heart to forgive me." She said in plea while hanging her head Hearing her words Captain Stanley walked over " Thank you Nicci, we more then accept your apology.Thant's what families do, they forgive each other and you are very much apart of this family." He said bringing her close for a hug"Now you go with Joanne and get some rest," Walking up to her dad then reached up she gave Roy a quick kiss before heading to the doorway with Jo. Then stopping she turned to her father. With a smile Nicci said " I love you daddy." " Boy I never would have guessed it." Chet started. " How old are you anyway Roy?" " Thirty five. Why?" Roy asked taking his seat at the table " Man that's young, I thought Capt here was going to be the first grandpa in this out fit." Chet teased With those words, Roy could feel his mind leave his body, With the look of sheer panic he stared out with his eyes as big as saucers. he mananaged " GRANDPA" before dropping his chin. |
