Mississippi was a very pretty state to him. Don't see this in California, he thought to himself. Watching as a Gentle breeze danced with the leaves of the oldest and tallest trees he had ever seen. While the branches stretched high above the road shading it from the warm Mississippi sun. As he pulled into the dirt driveway a jolt of nerves hit him for he didn't know what would take place or what he could accomplish durning his visit. All he knew that Jo was right, he was her father and that she needed him. He wasn't going to let her down. Climbing out of the car then heading for the front door Roy was greeted by the sweet aroma of at least a hundred Sweet Peas growing wild near the white two story house. Well this is it." He said to himself as he rang the door bell. After a few moments Roy could hear the soft foot prints on the other side of the door followed by the sound of the door knob turning. As soon as the door swung open a certain saddness fell on him as he noticed her blackened eye." Hi Betty." He greeted with concern filling his voice " Hi Roy, What are you doing here? this is such a surprise, I wasn't expecting you." She greeted excitedly while pulling him in for a quick friendly hug. " Yeah I know, I called last night to let you know I was coming but there wasn't an answer." Roy said as he step passed Betty allowing her to shut the door. " Well I'm glad you did, So tell me how are things with you? How's Jo and the kids?" She asked as she offered Roy a seat on the couch. " They're fine." Roy answered over the sound of muffled music coming from an upstairs bedroom." But I should ask you the same thing. How's it going with you?" " It's okay." Betty lied as she looked upward towards the ceiling. Then turning to face the wall opposite of Roy, she tried desprately to hide the truth. " Come on Betty, you and I both know that's not true. " Roy said softly while placing his finger gently on her chin turning her so that she was facing him." Betty, you dont have to tell me, That black eyes gives me a pretty good idea." No longer able to hold back her tears Betty cut loose. " Roy I just don't know what to say or where to begin, it's just so hard. I can't talk to her anymore. She hates me Roy, she tells me that everyday if she speaks to me at all. Do you have a clue as to how much it hurts to know that your own flesh and blood hates you so much that the sight of you sickens her." " Shhhhh... it's okay Betty, let it out." Roy soothed taking her in close and letting her sob against his shoulder. Hearing her weeps soften, Roy lifted her up so that she was once again facing him " Betty I want you to listen to me." Roy started." What I'm about to say doesn't have anything to do with Roger or Joanne. You and I are Nicci's parents not them. Now I know it's been rough you and I know you love Nicci but you cant keep this up. Today it's a black eye, but what about tomorrow or the next day. You and I both know that you cant keep pretending things are okay when it's really not. " " Roy what do you exspect me to do, tell everyone that I'm scared to death of my fourteen year old daughter?"Betty said in between sobs " I dont exspect you to do anything, That's why I'm here. I want to take Nicci home with me." " No Roy, I cant let you do that." " Betty, she's my daughter too. I cant leave here knowing how bad things are for you. You've done your job as her mother now it's my turn to do my job as her father." Looking up at Roy, Betty felt a sudden burst of hope. " Do you really mean it Roy? What about Jo, how does she feel,? Roy what if something happens."She asked " The kids are pretty excited abut meeting their sister and its like Jo said what ever happens we'll deal with it as a family." Roy ended " Now where's Nicci, I'd like to talk to her." ......... Stopping in front of Nicci's bedroom, Roy could hear the music clearer as he tapped his knuckles on the door. After waiting for an answer that never came Roy took the door knob in his hand. Turning it he pushed his way just inside the doorway. " Nicci."He said Looking up Nicci saw her father. For a moment the look of shock took over, but was soon resplaced by the look of wonder." What are you doing her, it's the wrong time of year for a visit from you." She said her voice littered with attitude. " I'm here because I'm concerned about what's been going on." Roy said. " Can you turn the music down so that we can talk?" Without a responce she ignored Roy by turning the volume up louder. Seeing her rebel against his wishes, he walked over to the sterio and pulled the plug. " Now maybe we can talk." Roy said " Hey what the fuck are you doing." Nicci spit jumping up from the bed " Sit down, right now." Roy ordered." I want to talk you about why you hit your mother." " Oh that's why you're here." " No that's not why I came. I came here to pick you up and take you back to LA with me." Roy said. " Yeah well just forget it, I aint goin. And if you must know why I decked her it's because the old bitch is always in my buisness. Always getting in my face about where I'm going, who I'm with and when I'll be back." Nicci said "she pissed me off . I told her to back off, it's not my fault after all she's the stupid bitch that didn't listen." " Nicci now that's enough." Roy said putting his foot down to his out of control daughter." I dont ever want you to say that again, do you understand? I wont hear of it." As a small boy, Roy was always taught to respect his parents. To wittness his own daughter say such hideous things about her own mother was very hard for Roy to hear. "Your only fourteen Nicci, she has every right to know those things." " I figured you would say that, just get out and leave me the hell alone." Nicci said turning to face the window. " Now Nicci........." Roy started. " I SAID GET OUT AND LEAVE ME ALONE." Nicci screamed at him in anger. Hearing the anger ring in her voice Roy decided it was best to leave and let her calm down before things got any further out of hand." Okay, Nicci I'll leave, but I'll be back." He said as he headed for the door. Shutting the door behind him he stopped as an object hit and shatter on the other side of the door. ................... It was evening and not another word was spoke between Roy and Nicci. Sitting around the supper table Roy watched Nicci as she sat acrossed him. " Nicci arent' you going to eat something?" Betty asked." Dont you like the food I fixed?" Seeing that only half of the contents in Nicci's plate remained " No I dont. it tastes like shit." Nicci said. "Nicci, you apologize to your mother right now." Roy demanded " Sorry if she cant handle the truth." Nicci spit. Then getting up she stomp away from the table and headed for her room. Looking at Roy then looking up as once again loud music leaked through, Betty spoke. "Roy if you'd like you can stay in the guest house. Roger will be home soon things will calm down when he gets home, it always does." Betty offered embarassed by Nicci's last outburst. ........... As Betty said,c 4 things calmed down as soon as Roger came home from work. Thinking it was safe Roy said good night " Well I guess I'll be going and try to get some shut eye. I'll see you in the morning." Seeing that Betty was dressed in her uniform " Yes, I'll be home at around 7:30." " Okay." Roy ended as he headed for the guest house that stood in the back of the main house ........... Placing a fresh tape in the sterio Nicci stood there letting the music take her as she turned the volume up a notch. Then deciding she was sleepy she walked over to her dresser to change into her night clothes. Pulling her sundress up over her head she allowed it to fall to the floor. Seeing her step dads reflection in the mirror she spun around to face him. " What the fuck do you want?" she asked as if she didn't already know " Oh I think you know what I want." He said pushing her forcfully into the dresser." Nice titties Nicci, very nice." He grinned as he grabbed one of her perfectly rounded breasts, squeezing it enough to cause pain " Your stupid, my dad is here." Nicci said almost in warning " Yeah, and with your music he wont hear a thing." He reminded. " Now shut up and give me what is mine." He ended grabbing her by the arm then shoving her onto the bed. Then exposing the flesh between her legs." What's the point?" She thought to herself as she felt him enter her. Feeling helpless to stop the torture that this man was placing on her, She layed there taking all that was dished to her. She wanted to scream but she knew that her dad wouldn't hear her.
