None ********** Visiting his 10 year old daughter Nicci from a past relationship when he was in collage, Roy sat next her on the banks of their favorite fishing hole in the sticks of Mississippi. As Roy sat there he could sence that something wasnt right. This visit wasn't like the ones from the past. For this time Nicci was quiet and by the look on her face he could tell that something was bothering her. " Nicci is there something wrong? How's school? Roy asked in his caring fatherly voice. " Schools okay daddy." Nicci said still starring down at the blue waters of Crystal Lake " Are you sure, how's your mother and her new husband?" He asked. He still cared about Betty and even though he and her were living their seperate lives at differant coast lines they always kept in contact for Nicci's sake. " I'm sure daddy, and mommy's fine." She wispered. Still starring down unable to face her father. She knew that Roy could read her and he would see her watery eyes and know that she really was hurting. While a part of her wanted to tell her father everything, another part of her was frightened. She remembered the threat that was given her and so not an utter word was spoke. Then wiping her eyes she covered a portion of her pain and looked up to Roy. " Daddy, when you leave for your house tonight, Can I come and live with you in your house with Joanne and my brother Chris?" "Oh Nicci , I wish you could but with the new baby and all I'm afraid there's just no room." Roy explained " I'm sorry, but its just a small three bedroom house. Hearing those words her father spoke, Nicci felt as if her world had crushed all around her. Without another word she got up and headed for the truck that was parked just a few yards away. ---- Driving Nicci back to her house Roy stole glances at her. He knew that his words were hard for his ten year old daughter to hear. And so Choosing his words causiously he spoke " Nicci please try to understand, There's nothing on this earth that I want more then to take you home with me and have all my children together, but I'm a fireman and I dont make enough money to get a bigger house. And becides think about your mother, she needs you and it would hurt her real bad if you were to leave. She loves you Nicci." Without a responce. Nicci continued her stare at the passing scenery as she thought about her father's words. She was reminded of the fact that her mother dismissed her words when she told her mother what was happening. Still being haunted by her mother telling her that if it wasn't for Roger they would have nothing and that they couldn't survive without him. Getting out of the car as soon as the truck came to a hault, she headed for the front door as fast as her legs could carry her until she was stopped by Roy giving her a hug good bye." Nicci I have go now, my plane leaves in an hour. You be a good girl and I'll call you when I get to LA." ..............Two weeks later..... Staring down at the dribbling blood that was coming from her loins, Nicci was reminded of the horrible pain that was placed upon her from the previous night. Holding her aching stomach she sat down on the toilet and began to weep. Feeling frightened all she could do was shake. She thought about her memories and was flooded with tears. These tears of hers was real and knowing that Roy or her mother wasn't there to protect her she felt very alone. TBC |
