| Part Twenty eight Previously: Nicci accepts Abby and holds her for the first time Authors Notes: Ten Weeks Latter Content Warning ********* Strolling into the day room Johnny greeted his friends"Morning." "Good morning." Roy greeted back seeing the bounce had returned in his partners step." It looks like you're in a good mood. How's Nicci and the baby?" He asked with interest Taking a seat at the table with his coffee Johnny looked at Roy and smiled. " Oh they're doing just fine. Nicci's taking to Abby just fine. At first Nicci was a little nervous about being alone with her. She didn't think she could take care of Abby all by herself . but I kept telling her that the mother instinct would kick in and it has." Johnny said " Well that's good, for a while I was wondering if she would ever come around." Roy said " Anyway I want to talk to you about something. You know the old couple that live in the house next to mine?" Roy asked "Yeah, what about them?" Johnny asked "Well I was talking to them yesturday and it turns out they're looking for a smaller house since their kids are all grown up. I thought about you and I mentioned to them that you have a one bedroom house and that you could use a bigger house now that you're just starting your family." Roy explained " Now forgive me if I'm sticking my nose where I shouldn't but you and I both know that Abby can't sleep in your room for long." "No Roy that's okay, Tell me what did they say?" Johnny asked " Well they sounded very interested and it would be possible for you guys to trade even since both houses are paid for. It sounds like a real good deal. He want's to meet with you tonight and descuss the details." "Cool, I'll pick Nicci up and we can meet with him after work." " Great I'll give him a call." Roy said After a quick phone call Roy walked back to the table. " He said you can stop over at six oclock." He announced with a smile ............... "Well Mr. Mathews, you have a very nice house here and it's big enough for my family but I don't think I feel right trading even, I mean I just have a one bedroom house. And this place is huge ,. three bedrooms a finished den a garage and a swimming pool." "Oh nonsence, I and my wife want a small house that is easy to care for. We're up in our ages and we're not able to keep up a house this size. Mr. Gage you would be doing us a favor." Mr. Mathews explained watching his wife agree with a nod of her head. " Well what do you think Nicci?" Johnny asked "Johnny it's your decision I can live just about anywhere. But I do like it and it does make sence.Johnny our family is growing." " Yeah I know it will eventually." Johnny said " No Johnny our family is growing now." Nicci said with a grin "What?"Johnny said standing there replaying the words that Nicci had said with his mouth open." Are you telling me what I think your telling me?" He asked " Yes Johnny I'm two months along. I just found out today when I went to Rampart for a check up. I was going to tell you over a candle lit dinner but now that were faced with this I feel you needed to know to help you make your decision." Nicci said. " Are you okay with another baby?" She asked shyly " Am I okay." Johnny said softly taking Nicci in his arms. Then leaning over giving her a long kiss not caring if Mr.and Mrs. Mathews were there or not. Breaking the kiss Johnny looked at Mr. Mathews with a proud smile "Mr.Mathews you got yourself a deal, When do you want to make it final?"He asked extending his hand " Well the sooner the better, I'll be around your place to look around and I'll bring the deed to this place with me. I figure we can make the switch by the end of the week mabye Saturday and Sunday." Mr. Mathews concluded ........... As promised Mr. Mathews came over to Johnny's with deed in hand and after a quick inspection the deal was complete with a simple contract. ...One week Later.......... Sitting in the porch swing holding his sleeping family. Johnny felt as though his world was finally complete. He had more then what a man could ever dream of. He knew that the love that they had would stand the test of time No one could ever distroy their love not even a person like Knuckles could .........Two months later.... Running out of a little white church, Chet tugged onto Johnny arm. " Hey Gage you ready? your guests are waiting." He said hurrying Johnny along " I'm coming, man you would think it was his wedding day." Johnny said with a nervous grin looking over at his best man Taking his place in front of the church with Paster Daniels, Johnny waited for the ceremony to start. As he stood there he looked behind him seeing all his friends who had come to share with him the best day of his life. The day he had waited for what seemed to Johnny as a life time. Without warning the wedding march began to play making Johnny's blood in his veins run cold. This is it, he thought watching Roy and Joanne walk down the isle hand in hand. Followed by Chet and Tricks., Doc Brackett and Dixie. With his eyes tearing he watched as his Captain slowly walk down the isle holding onto his Bride's arm. Coming to a stop next to Johnny, Captain leaned over and gave Nicci a quick kiss then taking her hand he placed it in Johnny's " God bless you both." he whispered before letting the ceremony continnue ..... I pronounce you man and wife you may kiss the bride." Daniels announced with a smile Lifting up her vail, Johnny looked at his bride. " I love you Mrs. Half Pint Gage." he whispered taking her in his arms " And I love you Mr. Johnny Gage." She whispered back Then taking each other in arms they kissed for the first time as being man and wife. ............Five months later...... Dragging his tired and over worked body out of bed Stanley carried himself to the desk and picked up the reciever and spoke "Station 51, Captain Stanley speaking.........Okay Nicci how far apart are they........Okay they're on their way......" Walking up to Roy and Johnny's bunk Captain Stanley announced." Johnny that was Nicci her contractions are five minutes apart." With those words, Johnny bolted out of the bed and ran for the squad forgetting his turn out pants. " Gage aren't you forgetting your..........." Chet started then seeing that his warning was to late he looked up at his Captain. " Hey Cap you think we should take his pants to him?" " I think we better the last thing he needs is to be arrested for indecent exposure." Stanley said with a smile heading for the engine while his men followed. ............. Entering the house they found Jo holding Abby. " Hey Jo where is she?" Johnny asked in excitement " She's in the bedroom." Joanne answered as the engine rolled to a stop. Walking into the bedroom, Johnny spotted Nicci laying on the bed. " Hey Half Pint. how are you doing?" He asked soothingly "I'm fine." she replied. " Oh Johnny it hurts." feeling another contraction "I know it does." He soothed " You don't know shit. you try squeezing something the size of a water mellon out of a hole the size of a lemon." She growled " Gage the ambulance is here." Stanley said walking into the bedroom " Good. I'll ride in the ambulance and contact Rampart." Johnny said ....... Riding in the back of the ambulance Johnny tried to confort his wife. " Shhhhhhh it's okay breathe." he soothed as another contraction came " Johnny it's coming." Nicci cried out in pain Checking her out he saw that the head was crowning and that he was about to do something that not many fathers get to do and that was to deliver his son. ........ The ambulance came to a stop in back of Rampart, and as Roy swung the doors open he was greeted by the cry of a brand new baby boy. " Roy I want you to meet my son.John Roderick Gage Jr." Johnny announced with pride as tears of joy slid down his face. " Hey guys what are you doing here?" He asked seeing the rest of the guys approaching "Oh we thought you would need these." Chet said holding up Johnny's pants "Hey how did you get my pants." Johnny asked "You forgot them you twit." Stanley said with a smile ......... Nicci was soon in her room, holding onto to her sleeping Abby. As she layed there she watched Johnny with his son feeling a sudden burst of happiness and piece cause for the first time in her life she felt she had a real future one that looked bright and full of promise. A future she wouldn't have had if it not been for Johnny. TBC |
