" Man that was a rough one." Johnny said strolling into the day room at Station 51 Rubbing his aching shoulder Roy agreed. " You said it Junior, over seven hours at a brush fire. I don't know bout you but I'm beat." " Oh come on, at least we have the next two days off." Chet spoke up " Yeah, I guess you're right." Johnny said thinking about the rest he so much deserved and needed " Speaking of which, What big plans do you have?" Roy asked " Nothing and I mean nothing, I'm going home and be lazy for the whole two days." What about you, what's your plans?" Johnny asked stretching his arms out with a yawn. " I'm going to spend some time with Jo and the kids." Roy said as B shift was entering the room. .......... Getting into his Land Rover Johnny knew that he was on his way to recovery and some good old fashion R and R. Johnny reached over to turn on the radio in hopes that some soothing music would help. Stopping at a very familiar song. " Earth Angel." Johnny said to himself allowing his mind to wounder back to his care free days when he was a teenager back in Montana. Singing out loud to the words, Johnny's eyes teared as he thought about all the fun he had in high school and his friends back home. " Damn I miss you guys." He whispered wiping a tear from his cheek. He thought about his best friend, the one he planned to spend the rest of his life with." Oh Half Pint I miss you." thinking of his true love he wiped the tears that flowed *** The next morning*** Seeing that the clock on the nightstand said almost noon, Johnny climbed out of bed and headed for the bathroom to take a quick shower. Wrapping a towel around him he walked into the kitchen. Shit, I knew I forgot something. Johnny thought learning that he had used the last of the coffee. Oh well I should do some shopping anyway. He added to his thoughts as he headed to the bedroom to get dressed ........... "Oh man I hate shopping, I'm never going to get out of here." Johnny said to himself checking out all the cars parked outside of the store. As he walked through the isles picking out the last of his groceries, he headed for the check out until he heard a familiar voice from behind call out. " Johnny, Johnny Gage, Is that you?" the familiar voice called out " Donny Peters, I don't believe it." Johnny said in excitement giving his old friend a hug. " The one and only, So how you been man, Damn it's been along time." Donny said looking at Johnny " Oh I'm fine, And You? I heard you and Peg finally got married." " Sure did and we have five kids, What about you, you ever get hitched?" Donny asked " Nope, I'm still single." Johnny said " Did you go to the class reunion?" Donny asked " No I had to work, Did you go?" " Yeah I went, but it just wasn't the same." Donny said " So what brings you to LA?" Johnny asked " Oh I'm on vacation visiting my aunt. Peg decided to stay home with the kids back in Kentucy. What about you?" " I live here." Johnny said " Hey do you think about the good days? you know, how much fun we used to have the four of us. I wonder what ever happened to Nicci?" Donny asked " I don't know, I haven't seen her since and probably never will, She just vanished." Johnny said looking down to the floor as his thoughts of her rushed back to him. Seeing that it still hurt his friend to think about his girl, Donny changed the subject." Well I guess I better get going my aunt is waiting." " Okay, it was good to see you again, Call me." Johnny said writing his number down and handing it to his friend. " I will who knows maybe I'll come back to LA with Peg and we can get back some of the good old days." Donny said " I don't know about that I'm a fireman/ Paramedic and I don't think Captain Stanley would like it to well if I did half the shit I used to." Johnny said smiling at the notion. " Well I don't think my Sargent would like it much either I turned out to be a cop." Donny said waving goodbye to his friend " I don't believe it, Donny Peters a cop." Johnny said returning the wave.
