Roy asked watching his partner enter the kitchen with a straight look on his face. "What?"Johnny asked looking at his partner standing in front of the stove. "I asked you if you wanted a cup of coffee." Roy repeated "I guess." Johnny said "Excuse me for saying so, but you don't look to well, Anything wrong?" Roy asked. Johnny was usually in a cheery mood especially after have two days off, and to see him with a the look of dispair was rather odd to Roy. "No there's nothing wrong, I just had a rough night that's all." Johnny explained "Oh every night's a rough night with you, what's wrong Gage bad date?" Chet asked walking into the kitchen. "Shut up Chet, I just couldn't sleep that's all." Johnny snapped giving Chet a glare "Oh that's to bad Gage, but I bet your date had no any troubles sleeping." Chet remarked with a grin "Just what are you saying Chet, are you saying I'm boring ?" Johnny asked defending his outgoing image "Oh I'm not saying that at all." Chet teased "Now look here Kelly, I'm not."Johnny started Just then Captain Stanley walks into where the guys were with a clip board in his hand. " Gee guys I don't mean to interrupt, but do you think we can get some work done today?" Stanley grumbled as he started announcing the days work. Just then the Klaxon sounded."Squad 51, man down at the Lexington County Park, corner of Lexington and 3rd, time out 9:42." Stanley activated the bay doors while responding. " Squad 51 KMG 365". -----ooooooo----- After treating the victim they quickly loaded him into the waiting ambulance " Why don't you ride in the ambulance, I'll follow you in the squad." Roy suggested. "No Problem." John replied climbing in the back of the ambulance. Roy then shut the doors and gave the driver the go ahead with two taps with his fist on the back door. ............... Walking up to the base staion they were greeted by Dixie " Hi guys." "Hey Dix, how's he doing?'' Johnny asked taking a drink of coffee. "Oh he'll be okay, he just got a little heated is all ,it seems he was jogging and wasn't drinking enough, he'll be released in an hour or so." Dixie said "God, why won't people learn?"Johnny grumbled drinking the last bit of his coffee. "Cause if they did, you and I would be out of a job." Roy replied putting the last of the supplies in the box "Yeah I guess your right. In any case we better get going, Mike's fixing Fried Chicken and I want to get there before Chet gets the breast."Johnny said sitting his cup on the counter. ............ Roy parked the squad in the Apparatus room as the Bay doors closed behind them.When the paramedics walked into the kitchen, they found the same scene. Marco setting the table,Mike at the counter preparing dinner,And Chet on the couch with Henry and the news paper. All of a sudden,Chet jumps up and walks over to the table. "Gage, your dating troubles are over." Chet shouted "What do you mean, I don't have troubles getting a date." Johnny said "I know you don't have troubles getting a date, you just have trouble getting good ones." Chet said "Oh shut up Chet, what do you know anyway, what makes you such an expert?" Johnny said "I'm not the expert, but Aunt Helen is." Chet said reaching his hand out to Johnny while holding the paper. "Yeah, and who the hell is Aunt Helen?" Johnny asked "Aunt Helen is a lady who writes a collumn in the personal section. See she has this quiz here that she swares will help anyone find the perfect mate." Chet said "Well that's okay, I think I'm able to find my own mate Chet, and I don't need any quiz to help me." Johnny said "Lunch ready yet? Stanley asked entering the room. "Yeah Cap, just finishing up." Stoker said setting the platter of chicken on the table. All of the men gathered around the table fixing their plates and joking around until Chet spoke up " I don't know why you're so afraid to take the test." "Test,what test?" Captain asked while dishing out some Mashed Potatos. Chet then explained the quiz to Captain Stanley. "Look I'm not afraid to take the test, why are you so interested in my love life anyway?"Johnny asked "Maybe because he doesn't have a love life of his own, he's got to have something to do." Roy spoke with a chuckle, "Yes I do,I'm just trying to help out a friend that's all, what do you have to lose anyway it's just a dumb quiz, it's not like it has special powers or anything." Chet said "What is it going to take to shut him up?" Johnny asked looking at the Captain. "You have to ask, take the damn test." Stanley replied. "All right all right I'll take the damn thing, give it here."Johnny yelled while putting his hands on his head as if to keep it from blowing off his shoulders. Just then the Klaxon sounded."Station 51, man trapped in toilet, at the LA County Zoo, across from One Stop and Verma, time out 13:42." Captain Stanley activated the Bay doors and responded."Station 51 KMG 365" ----ooooooo---- They arrived at the scene to find the manager awaiting there arrival.Captain Stanley stepped out of the Engine and started walking over to the man who was standing there. "Hi,Captain Stanley LA County fire Department." "Hi, I'm Robert Johnson,I'm the Manager on duty." "What do you got here?" Stanley asked "Well I don't know, see I was walking by the Porta Potties and I heard someome calling out for help, I don't know which one he's in, but he's in one of those."Johnson said pointing to the row of potties "Okay, we'll go check it out,Kelly, Lopez, come with me,Gage and DeSoto, get your gear and follow us,Stoker wait here by the Engine." Stanley ordered. As they came to a row of Porta Potties Captain Stanley announced "Hello, is there anyone in there, hello can you hear me, this is Captain Stanley LA County Fire Department." "Emagine going out like this, being killed by a toilet." Chet said under his breath. "Yeah, it reminds me of a bad B movie called, The Case Of The Killer Potties." Johnny chuckled "Marco,why don't you check all the doors see if they're locked."Captain Stanley ordered. "Cap,this one seems to be the only one locked."Marco announced pointing to a Porta Pottie near the end. Captain and the rest of them then walked to where Marco was pointing. Once again Captain Stanley announced while knocking on the door "Hello,can you hear me, this is the Fire Department." Then in a muffled voice they heard an answer."Yeah,I can hear you." "Okay then, don't go anywhere." Stanley said "Where am I gonna go, I'm stuck." The voice replied. "Okay, hang in there, we'll get you out." Stanley said "Kelly, go get Bo Cutters and a couple of Drills just in case." Captain ordered. Kelly soon returned with the tools and then opened the door. "Hmm Capt,exactly what do you want to do about this?"Chet asked motioning for his Captain. Stanley peeked in to find a man stuck upside down in the toilet." Well we can try to pull him out, Lopez and Kelly you two get on one side,Gage and DeSoto you two get on the other. Now get ready to pull him out on the count of three,ready 1, 2, 3 pull. Again ready 1, 2, 3 pull." The Captain ordered. "It's no use Cap, he's really stuck."Chet explained. "What about some oil." Roy suggested. "Right."Stanley replied grabbing the mineral oil out of the Drug Box,then handing it to Roy. Roy then opened the bottle and squirted some oil around the victims middle."There." Roy said replacing the cap on the bottle. "Okay now, on the count of three, Ready 1, 2, 3 pull, again ready 1, 2,3 pull."Captain ordered. "This is no good either Cap, he's really in there good."Chet announced "Okay we'll try this then,Marco,Chet you two go out side and drill some holes in the side of the Pottie, hopefully that will equal the air pressure and release the suction." Chet and Marco then left to carry out the orders given to them "You're gonna be okay, we're going to get you out."Johnny said reassuring the victim.while trying not to laugh. "Now Gage you get on one side,DeSoto you get on the other and get ready to pull, okay now pull." Stanley ordered Slowly the man started to slide out and was finally freed. "Oh thank God,I thought I was a goner." The man cried. "Are you okay, are you hurt?" Roy asked "No I think I"m okay." The man said "Well lets check you out to make sure." Roy suggested. "Okay." The man agreed walking outside and taking a seat on the ground. "Johnny would you get the vitals?" Roy asked "Sure." Johnny said "Roy,The vitals are normal." Johnny replied. "What is your name sir?" Roy asked "My name is Semore, Mike Semore." "How exactly did this happen?"Johnny asked "Well I went to the bathroom and when I went to flush the toilet my wedding ring slipped off and landed in side, I wasn't about to leave it there so I bent over to pick it up ,I lost my footing and fell in." Seamore explained "Well Mr. Semore you don't seem to have any injuries, but if you have any problems go to your regular Dr.or Rampart Emergency." Roy suggested. "Thanks I sure will." "No offence Mr.Semore but if it was me, I would've left the ring there."Johnny said. "He's not married, is he?" Mr. Semore asked looking over at Roy. "No."Roy answered "Well thanks again guys." Mr. Semore said extending his hand. "No Problem, no thinks needed."Gage and DeSoto replied declining the mans hand Semore looking at the paramedics then realizing why they wouldn't shake his hand" Right I guess I better wash my hands." ----oooo----- Roy and Johnny finally made their way to the kitchen at the station after washing up in the latrine. "Hey, what about the test Gage?"Chet asked. "What test?" Johnny asked. "You know, The quiz by Aunt Helen?" Chet reminded "Oh that test, you still on that kick Chet?"Johnny asked "Kick,I'm not on any kick, like I said I just want to help out a friend that's all." Chet said "Oh okay what the hell I'll take the damb thing,Give it here." Johnny snapped reaching for the paper. "Okay okay hold on be patient, here I'll ask the questions and you answer them., but be honest or the test wont work." Chet replied taking a seat at the table. "I will, I will like the test is going to work anyway." Johnny replied taking his seat across from Chet. "What's going on?"Captain Stanley asked while heading for the coffee pot. "Oh,Chet just suckered Gage into taking Aunt Helens match maker quiz." Roy answered taking a seat next to his partner. "Oh this should be interesting."Stanley replied also taking a seat at the table. "Okay,question number one."Chet started "Wait, just how many questions are there?" Johnny asked taking a sip of coffee. "They're only twenty, now shut up and listen,okay question number one,do like blondes,reds, or brunettes?"Chet asked. "Uh, Blondes." Johnny said "Okay,question number two,do you like long hair or short hair?" Chet asked "Uh,Long." Johnny said "Number three, do you prefer a girl with her feet planted firmly on the ground , or a girl that just seems to skate by life?" Chet asked "Uh, the first one you said." Johnny said Chet finally came to the last question."Okay last question, do you prefer a girl that is sensitive most of the time but knows when to be strong, a girl that is sensitive all the time and cries about everything in sight, or a girl that is as strong as an ox and never cries at all?" Chet asked "Uh,the first one you said." Johnny said Chet then started calculating the results while Johnny waited patiently. "Hmm." Chet said starring at the results. "Hmm what?" Johnny asked looking at Chet. "Says here that you have a one in a million chance of finding your dream girl." Chet said "See I told you Aunt Helens test wouldn't work,it's just dumb." "Hold on, she also says that you shouldn't give up looking for your dream girl, for there're billions of girls out there she could be among them."Chet explained. "Boy Kelly, you sure have a way of bringing a guy down."Johnny said standing up from the table. "Here let me see that." Stanley asked reaching for the paper. After reading Johnny's answers and the results he looked up at Johnny. "Gage,you've described an Angel, good luck finding her." "What do you mean Cap?"Johnny asked looking over at the Captain. "Well lets face it, Angels come from Heaven and no matter how you look at it, LA is a far cry from Heaven .We see that everyday here at work, unless your Angel falls from the sky you probably wont find her here."Captain explained looking at Johnny and putting the paper on the table. "Listen to the Captain, you know he's right."Roy agreed "Yeah I know but Chet told me to be honest, what am I surpose to do?" Johnny asked "Well if I was you, I would change my answers.Your not going to find an Angel in a drug infested place like LA."Roy said as B shift entered the room TBC |
