The Basics
The question I get asked most is: how do I get started? and right after and sometimes before that one I get asked: What's this all about anyway?

Well, this is a religion for one thing.. it's a way of life, a way of viewing the world... no two people are going to see that the same but that's cool.. diversity is what makes life interesting.

At this point you may have read a book or two or you may have just come acrossed some websites and are curious. The first thing I have to say is read all you can.. create your own theology! Don't take everything you read, hear.. whatever at face value.. Do your own research, try different things... Some stuff will work for you and some won't, you won't know what works until you try it all out.

now on to the good stuff......
Ok so you are interested in all this.. that's great! I'd give you my own personal theology but that won't get you very far in your quest for figuring things out. My suggestion is to sit down and write out what you think... in essence you are creating your own bible of sorts... this will go in your book of shadows later. Most every book you read will tell you to do this and it's an excellent idea. It helps you get down solid what you think about divinity and how it all works. This will most likely be a work in progress, you'll add to it or you may not. But having it there will help tremendously. I make my students write a Statement of Belief several times through out their studies with me.

After you've got a good idea of what you think about the devine, who God/Goddess/ combo of both are to you, then you are ready to start. In most covens and in solitary practice, the excepted method of research is called the year and day journey. This means you take a year and a day to study, create your theology, and decide if Wicca/Paganism/Witchcraft/etc is for you. This doesn't mean that you can't try things out during this time, matter of fact I encourage it!

My students spend their journey studying the history of the Craft, it's theologies, it's influences, how to practice, magick and theory, and a bit of Divination. All my newbies have to read Scott Cunningham's Guide for the Solitary Practitioner or Silver Ravenwolf's To Ride a Silver Broomstick. These books are the best ones I've read for newbies.
Under construction be patient!!!!
