History of the Toy:
Since the water gun was invented, it has become one of the most popular summer toys of all time.(4)  In the last twenty years they have improved a lot.(4) The first water guns were very simply designed and could only shoot a distance of about eight or nine feet.(4) The newer models have improved greatly and can shoot over fifty feet.(4) The first water guns had very limited capabilities.(4) Handheld guns could only shoot short distances due to the lack of air pressure.(4) After each shot, a child would have to go out of his way to refill the gun.
In 1982, a nuclear scientist named Lonnie Johnson found a solution to this problem.(4) He was working on a new heat-pump system to regulate temperature using moving water.(4) He attached a pumping mechanism to a sink in the bathroom.(4) The water shot across the room which startled him.(4) This gave him the idea of using compressed air in a water gun to provide pressure for a water blast.(4) He asked for the help of Bruce D. Andrade to help make his ingenious idea a reality.(4) Together they came up with the design of the Super Soaker.(4) This design was built around a pump mechanism that causes the pressure to build up.(4)
In 1988, the Super Soaker was under the original name of the "Power Drencher."(2) Later, in 1991, the Power Drencher was renamed the "Super Soaker."(2) Since the invention, this toy has gained popularity quickly, causing many variations to evolve.(3) The original base model is known as the Super Soaker 50 and its smaller version, Super Soaker 25.(3) The Super Soaker 100, 200, and 300 have all been created to enhance the water flow.(3) Years later, Larami created the Xtra Power series and a XXP series.(3) The Constant Pressure System 2000 was introduced later and it uses different ways to store pressure within the weapon to create a constant stream of water.(3) This gun spit out water with a great force causing a safety hazard, and it has since been discontinued.(3)
