| Emblem Chapter #140, O.E.S. of the Far North Shore (Zion, Waukegan, North Chicago, Gurnee, Vernon Hills, and Mt. Prospect) celebrates its 53rd anniversary this year, 2001. Emblem Chapter #140 was organized, September 25, 1948, under the leadership of Worthy Grand Matron, Lovonia Brown and by the direction of the Grand Worthy Patron, Samuel H. Rosenberg and his commission, who granted the permission that the chapter be charted. Assisted by other Grand Lodge Officers, Worthy Grand Patron Rosenberg, delivered the charter which had been granted by Eureka Grand Chapter to Emblem. Which upon that time we became known as Emblem Chapter #140, O.E.S. of the second district. Sister Rosa Hardwick, Worthy Matron, her staff of officers and members of Pride of the North Chapter #61 of Evanston, Illinois was granted the privledge of sponsoring and initiating our chapter. Emblem Chapter was later adopted by Rufus Mitchell Lodge #107, P.H.A. on November 17, 1974. Mayor Brother Bobby E. Thompson, Worshipful Master, Doctor Sister Daisy Brooks, Worthy Matron, and Doctor Brother Wadell Brooks, Worthy Patron. Sister Louise E. Jenkins was our first Worthy Matron and was unselfishly supportive of the programs of each succeeding Worthy Matron until the Lord called her home on February 19, 1983. In her memory the chapter created an educational schloarship, the Emblem Chapter #140 O.E.S. Lousie E. Jenkins scholorship that is awarded annually to a deserving student. At present forty-three Worthy Matrons and thirty Worthy Patrons have served our chapter. Of these matrons and patrons, more than thirty matrons and more than five patrons have faithfully represented our chapter by serving as Grand Officers of Eureka Grand Chapter Illinois. Many Past Matrons have served Eureka Grand Chapter O.E.S. in an elective office. They include Sister Gwendolyn Lambert, Grand Auditor 1989, Sister Dollie L. Sanders, Worthy Grand Matron, 1993-95, Sister Rosemary Peterson, Grand Treasurer 1993-98, and Sister Valda L. Whitehead, Assistant Grand Lecturer 1994-97 and Grand Conductress 1999. Our Past Patron, Brother Archie C. Senter 33, was elected and served from 1987-90 as the Most Worshipful Grand Master of the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge, Free and Accepted Masons, Prince Hall Affiliated , State of Illinois.
