RECIPE OF THE WEEK
HOME MADE DONUTS
Ingredients:

1 cup sugar
3 eggs
7 tbsp butter
6 tsp baking powder
1 cup milk
1 tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp nutmeg
4 cups of sifted flour (must be sifted)

Oil for deep fryer
Sugar
Icing Sugar
Cinnamon

Method:

Beat sugar and margarine, set aside.  Beat eggs and add to sugar and margarine.  Add milk and vanilla.  Add the salt and nutmeg.  Mix in a separate bowl the baking powder and flour.  Add this after everything else is mixed together.  Form into a large dough ball.

Let stand in fridge overnight.

Roll out a piece of the dough to 1/4 inch and cut with a glass (like you would a cookie) and get a smaller glass (shot glass or something) and cut a hole for the center.  You can either use these bits to make donut holes or you can re roll them into the next batch of dough.  If you don't want to take the effort to do this, take small globs and roll into strips between your hands and attach each side of the strip to form a ring.   Deep fry each donut in Crisco in a deep fryer.  Keep in mind these will grow.  Test a few to see what you wish to do first.

In separate dishes on the table put icing sugar in one and cinnamon in the other and regular sugar in another.  Use these after you deep fry the donuts to roll them in.  Mix sugar and cinnamon in another plate if you wish.  Have fun with it.

My husband recalls his mom making these for him as a child.  They are best served warm.  As a special treat, have the kids sit around and roll them in the cinnamon or sugar while they are still warm.  Erin, I made these for your house.
