Most major characters within the Harry Potter series are divided as either being good or evil, and therefore are often divided into one of two groups, the Death Eaters or the Order of the Phoenix. These groups are on the two extreme opposite ends of the good and evil spectrum, though membership in one or the other cannot necessarily display where a characters true loyalties lie.

The Order of the Phoenix
The Death Eaters are those who serve Voldemort in his fight against the Ministry of Magic and the Order of the Phoenix by waging both physical and psychological warfare on those who oppose him. Membership is shown by having the Dark Mark branded into their forearms, which is a skull and a snake, and they can be used to summon the Death Eaters to Voldemorts side, as they will burn black. All Death Eaters are expected to show loyalty and obedience until death. From a Christian perspective, the Death Eaters are symbolic of demons or the possessed doing the work of the Devil on earth, as some former Death Eaters were "possessed" by Voldemort while doing his bidding. Known Death Eaters (Major Characters) include; - Crabbe Sr. - Goyle Sr. - The Malfoy Family - Peter Pettigrew - Quirinus Quirrell - Severus Snape Former Members include; - Sirius Black - Barty Crouch
The Order of The Phoenix is an Anti-Voldemort Organization that was founded by Albus Dumbledore in an attempt to stop Voldemort when he was at his height of power. Once Voldemort fell from power, the organization disbanded until he reemerged during the Tri-Wizard Tournament. From a Christian perspective, members of the Order of the Phoenix are symbolic of angels or souls that have been saved from damnation, as they stand in opposition to the work of Voldemort, a reflection of the devil. Members (Major Characters) include; - Albus Dumbledore - Alastor Moody - Minerva McGonagall - Remus Lupin - Rebeus Hagrid - Sirius Black - The Weasley Family - Harry Potter - Hermonie Granger Former Members include; - James and Lily Potter - Peter Pettigrew - Severus Snape
Like all things in the world of Harry Potter, membership in one of these groups does not equate to being definitively good or definitively evil, as membership can change just as circumstances can change or effect a characters morality. In the case of Peter Pettigrew, his circumstances changed when Voldemort came to power, as he saw an opportunity to gain power and influence for once in his life, and therefore betrayed the Potter's to win Voldemort's favor, proving to have lost any trances of morality some where along the way. Due to the importance of circumstance, no characters (besides Harry, Dumbledore and Voldemort) can be defined as either being completely good or completely evil, as good characters can sometimes do bad things under bad circumstances and bad characters can sometimes do good things when their true sense of morality is tested. Also, membership in one group or the other is not permanent, as former Death Eaters can be redeemed and justified to join the Order of the Phoenix, and members of the Order of the Phoenix can be lured to the side of Dark Magic.
