common in east asian cooking, this vegetable is a large (about 2x as large as a fist), round, light green, dense bulb with thick stems coming out of it in one direction.  peel it before eating.

the chinese name, "da tou cai," literally means "big head vegetable."  keep in mind that "da tou cai" sometimes can refer to other kinds of dense cabbage-like vegetables.
