Back to the Garden

When the sky becomes a field of sapphire

Clothed in a mesh of diamond stars

While Sun takes her evening rest

The moon's jaded grin can only reflect

The witness of many stolen trysts

The particulars of which he is powerless to reveal

Sweet breezes carry night-blooming rapture

Honeysuckle, jasmine, red-roses give substance to the air

Intoxicating, uplifting, thick and reassuringly cloying

I remember the love of my youth in such as these

My love of the forbidden garden, that I may now visit

In memory only, a journey both sweet and bitter

Unless earthly bounds are broken, and the world is changed

I can still taste the kiss of my beloved

I can still feel the promise of the night I discovered love

The moon and stars and sapphire sky our only silent witness

To a pledge of fealty beyond the circles of this world

Jasmine and roses were our atmosphere

In a universe comprised of two

For many years I have walked alone, with only the garden of memory

As a comfort and reminder, that my beloved shall return some day

That we shall inhabit that perfect universe of two

That every night should be so blessed
