Results of the Nexus Character Awards, 2004

I am pleased to annouce that the results of the first annual Nexus Character Awards are in! Click the images of the winners to enlarge them.

Coolest Weapon

Aragorn's sword, Narsil won this category by a landslide with 46% of the total vote. That's twice as many as any other nominee.

In second place were the double-bladed katanas of Raijuta's henchmen from Rurouni Kenshin, with 23%.

Tied in third place were Sephiroth's eight-foot sword, Masamune from Final Fantasy VII, and Legolas' bow and arrow, each with 15% of the vote.

Best Genetic Mutation

Final Fantasy VII's villain, Sephiroth won this category with half of the total votes. Not bad for someone bent on the destruction of the world.

Nymphadora Tonks, the metamorphagus witch from Harry Potter was close behind with 42%.

In third place was X-Men's telepathic and telekinetic Jean Grey, with 8%.

Most Rabid Fangirls

No surprise here, Legolas Greenleaf, Elven Prince of Mirkwood from Lord of the Rings wins this category with 69% of the vote. This is the largest percentage of votes any character got in any category this year.

Tied in second place are Vincent Valentine and Sephiroth, both characters from Final Fantasy VII. Since these were the only three characters nominated for this category, we have no third place runner-up this year.

Worst Luck

The winner here is Turin Turumbar, one of the many tragic figures from J.R.R. Tolkien's Silmarillion. He received 43% of the vote. Note: Since he has yet to be featured in any movie, obtaining a picture of Turin was difficult. The one at the right is a fanart sketch from TheOneRing.net.

Tied in second place are Gollum, also from a Tolkien saga, and Obi-Wan Kenobi of Star Wars. Both received 21% of the votes in this category.

In third place we have Silk, a.k.a. Prince Kheldar of Drasnia, with 7% of the vote.

Strangest Rescue Mission

The undisputed winners here are the Mystery Men, from the movie of the same name. They received 55% of the total votes.

In second place we have Silk a.k.a. Prince Kheldar from David Eddings' Belgariad, with 27%.

Our third place runner-up is Akane Tendo from the popular manga Ranma 1/2.

Coolest Trench Coat

The winner of this much anticipated award is... *drumroll* a tie! Neo Anderson from The Matrix and Vash the Stampede from Trigun both came away with a 31% of the vote!

In second place we have Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII, with 23% of the total votes.

Third place goes to Mundungus Fletch of Harry Potter, with 15%.

Best Heroine

Best heroine goes to Hermione Granger from Harry Potter, with 38% of the votes. This category had more nominees than any other.

Thayet, one of Tomora Pierce's characters, and Nymphadora Tonks are tied in second place with 23% each.

All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost,
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost,
From ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring,
Renewed shall be the blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king.
