Book II - A Requiem of Heroes
Chapter 2-Requiem of Heroes
As the Heroes continued deeper into the ancient crypts, they came before an open room, with an altar atop a flight of stairs, that held a strange book. Surrounding this altar was a host of undead ghouls and skeletons, lead by a fallen paladin, cursed to stand watch over the altar and book. When they first approached, the fallen paladin, Abraham; told the heroes to live or they would be destroyed. The heroes complied. As they left the crypts, they met a man named Murtaugh, whose house had been destroyed by the undead, because he wanted his family heirloom back from the crypt. The heroes traveled with him back to Abraham, and faced him with Murtagh. Murtagh was slain swiftly by the flaming blade of the skeletal blackguard, and with his backhand stroke, he slew Brondel. Abraham ceased his actions and warned the others to leave. Winter used a scoll of ressurection on Brondel, restoring life to the old dwarven warrior. After this, the party began to argue about what to do next. Winter desired to destroy the undead paladin, and the others did not wish to fight it. Eventually they went to the church to talk to the priest about the paladin, and he said he did not know about him, buit that there was a great source of evil in the crypt that had to be stopped. Thats when they came up with the idea of stealing the book on the altar he was guarding, and destroying it. Cyquis and Laren were sent to go steal it, and the others would cover them. With great stealth and guile, they approached the nesting pplace of the book, but Laren was to slow and loud, and the paladin slew him on the spot. Cyquis grabbed the book, and began to run. Abraham chased after Cyquis, and struck him down, as he did Winter, no more than a few feet away. It was only later, that Brondel came down, and discovered his dead friend. Brondel was only able to find Winters corpse, and found a scoll of Raise Dead on his body, and used it to restore Winter, as he had restored him earlier. Now the heroes mourn the loss of two of their fallen. Cyquis and Laren.
