Book I - A Song of Shadows
Chapter 8 -Crypt of the Undead Priest
The vampires Alara and Rain have made a deal with the heroes to help remove the curse from the crypt. Arming the heroes with knowledge of the crypt and its guardians, the vampires took to the shadows and waited for the heroes to gather the Sealing Gem. A powerful undead cleric and mage guarded the last two shards, and with the combined holy powers of Sir Trent and Winter, the undead priest and mage were swiftly taken care of. With all the shards collected, the heroes brought them to an old shrine of Lathander and blessed the shards that they may refuse. With the blessing of Lathander, the gem became whole once more, and opened the way to Jax. Before the gate stood a 12 foot tall monstrosity of bone. Sit Trent quickly ran at the beast and sundered a leg, dropping it to the ground, where the team savagly tore it apart. At the bottom they found the one known as Jax, once a mighty cleric of Lathander, now he followed a being known as "Dregoth", who seemed to grant the lich divine power. In a fierce battle, the heroes slew the body of Jax, only to find that he would reappear after a few minutes; albeit a bit weaker. It was not until they destroyed the phylactory at the cost of Sir Trents life, did they seal off the gateway to the Negative Energy Plane, and destroy the soul of Jax, freeing the vampires to lay to rest. Returning to the surface, the heroes brought before Fenwick, the Captain of the guards; Sir Trent's body. Fenwick used a scroll of resurrection to restore the soul to Trent's body. With the evil of the crypt banished and Trent restored, the heroes have now made way to the city of Wheloon at the behest of Sir Trent, so that they may be properly rewarded for their services. So now the heroes wait in the Wyvern Watch Inn in the city of Wheloon, preparing for the journey to Shadowdale.
