All the while the Gynecologist in Singapore told us that Michi would be too big for mama. Therefore, a Caesarian is necessary.
Dr. Tan, the Gyne, predicted 13th of August 1998 would be the day. Since Michi's (then) Godfather-to-be, Onkel Klaus, requested that Michi should have a birthday on the 14th of August, we decided to fulfill his request and go for the operation on that day.
Everything was arranged, operation on Friday, 14th Aug. 1998 and papa should come to Singapore (from Jakarta) on 12th Aug. 1998.
However, Michi decided different! He chose his own birthday. On Monday, 10th Aug. 1998, mama got the first signs, not very alarming though and since it was a public holiday in Singapore, she waited the next day to see Dr. Tan. She visited Dr. Tan's clinic at Mt. Elizabeth hospital on Tuesday afternoon. Before that she phoned papa and told him what she was doing. He said he would wait for the result before deciding whether or not he should fly to Singapore that day or on the 12th as planned. Workload hesitated him to lose a day in the office before he left for (ehm..) maternity leave, which would be a full week!

Back to mama at the clinic, being late she had to wait for quite a while before she got through everything, that included monitoring contractions which took an hour to finish. Dr. Tan said we could wait until the next morning as the contractions were mild. By the time mama phoned papa at 6pm, to tell him he did not need to change his schedule, he had already left for Singapore. Since he heard nothing from mama during the day, he decided to go anyway to find mama still smiling happily at home in Woodlands, Singapore. So they went for a bowl of fried fish noodle (one of mama-s main dishes during her pregnancy) at the hawker centre across the road, while Revi preferred to watch TV. On the way back, mama had a little slip (as she always does) but papa was very alert (as usual) so accident was avoided. All was normal until about 1am, mama woke papa up because her water-bag burst. They rushed to Mount Elizabeth hospital, Dr. Tan was called. He came before 3am and decided to run the operation immediately. There it was done at the wee hour of Wednesday, 12th August 1998. |
