Before electricity and the use of  gas dating back to the late 1700 and early 1800's it was the custom with this particular style of colonial house to build ... and usually to the right ... a kitchen that was detached from the main house.
There had always been a porch on the back side of the house that faced a huge yard and grapevine followed by a garden that extended far back to the pig pen field which reached back to the woods bordering the Norris' property.
When the Cappers purchased the farm in the early 70's and while permitting my grandparents to remain in the house for as long as they needed he'd add a new kitchen to the right, a new bathroom to the left and a newly constructed front porch.
