With the exception of George Washington Carver School, the First Missionary Baptist Church and one other brick building situated directly across from the school which is now a Boys & Girls Club, architecturally speaking, this is the only remaining structure that Joe and I observed that still exists from the former Carver Heights community,
And as Joe and I would snap pictures and reflect on the fact that all of what we had remembered as Carver Heights no longer exisited I could not help but reflect on my Sunday Walk, 19 December 2004 Photo Essay that that I was then still in the process of working on that focused on the Southernwest Heritage Trail in WDC which in its literature discussed the fact "Although one of the city's oldest areas, today Southwest looks lke  one of the neewsest, with an array of 1960's modernist apartments and townbhouses.  After WWII, the neighborhood was the nation's first to expereince the U.S. government's 'urban renewal" program, which resulted in the demolition of most of its older structures.  In the process, most of Southwest's primarily poor and workinmg class community was removed.  Thus there are few physical remains associated with the people ..."
