Elven Dwellers Series: The Elves' Stories After the Ring Legolas' Story Chapter 1 The gleaming sun arose slowly in the midsummer sky. Shining, dimly over the horizion of the endless carpet of sea. A warm breeze swam through the air and over the water forming small waves. The boat rocked gently as it was lifted over the constant flow of waves time after time. An elf, still clothed in his war garmets, looked up to the sky and inhaled the sweet air of the morning. He thought back to the eventful age that had finally come to pass and sighed. It was finally time to rest. And he would, as soon as he reached the havens. That's where he was bound to. Day after day, the only company he had was the soft calling of far off birds, which only the elves can hear and his greatest friend. Legolas turned to look over to see if the dwarf had waken yet. Foolish mortals, need so much sleep. The dwarfs stirred slightly in his sleep and then stretched out on his small bed and rolled over. Gimli tumbled off the bed, making a large crash. The boat shook slightly. Legolas chuckled as his friend stumbled to get to his feet and brush himself off and the searching look in his eyes made evident that he had no clue where he was. Gimly's gruff laughter joined him once the little dwarf realized where he was. "Everyday," The fair elf chuckled. Gimli sat down on his bed and figetted around for a comb. "I'm not used to boats. Every morning I think I'm still dreaming, until the throbbing pain in my head from rolling off the bed overcomes me," He grunted. He began to comb out his beard but the comb once again got stuck and broke. "I don't know how you do it, Legolas." He began again. "Living thousands of years and combing your hair everyday." Gimli paused for a moment and then continued, "I mean, really now, dwarves only live hundreds of years, my hair is a third the length of you and I seem to break a comb everytime I try to comb it out." Legolas then smiled at his friend. "Maybe if you did it more often you wouldn't break so many combs my good friend," he replied. The dwarf laughed and then his face quickly turned seriouse, "Sorry I don't carry a comb everywhere I go with me." Legolas shook his head and then turned back towards the sun. "Isn't it a wonderful morning," he sighed. "Just look at that sunrise, it's beautiful." Gimli just grunted. Legolas peered toward the front of the boat. Soon he smiled and then scurried to the inside of the ship. "We must get ready," he began. "The Grey Havens is only two days away." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ -More to come.... by: Cheryl
