Andi Qashas Rahman has been a faculty member of the English Department of the State University of Makassar since 1986. Before becoming a lecturer, he was involved in several international programs such as the "Indonesia-Canada Youth Exchange Programs" (1978/1979, as a participant; 1982/1983, as a group leader) and the "ASEAN-Japan Friendship Program for the 21st Century" (1984). In addition to his academic activities, he served as a member of the legislative council (DPRD) of Makassar Municipality from 1987 to 1999. In 1998, he gained his masters degree in Humanities (M.Hum) from the Postgraduate Program of Hasanuddin University of Makassar, where he is currently working for his doctoral degree. In the period of his postgraduate studies, he took part in a number of national and international seminars on language and language teaching issues held in Celebes, Java, and Singapore.
