Putting Children at the Center of Curriculum: Facilitating Indonesian Children Learning English as a Foreign Language

This presentation shall present some tensions faced by Indonesian children learning English as a foreign language in school context by, first, outlining the existing socio-cultural condition surrounding children in and out of school contexts. Some pedagogical implications will be drawn to serve as a basis upon which to articulate promises and challenges that teachers have in their attempt to teach English to young learners in Indonesia. Some practical instructional recommendations will be presented to illustrate how teachers can ensure that the teaching 1eaming process is both meaningful and beneficial to learners.
