Parents' Expectations: A Case Study in an English Private Course in Yogyakarta

Christina Kristiyani

The number of private English courses for children has grown in this country to facilitate the opinion that 'young is better'. Many parents are, then, eager to send their children to learn English. This study is mainly to give teachers some insights related with expectations that parents have in their children. It attempts to reveal the parents' expectations in sending their children to learn English to courses in their early age; whether such expectations are realistic or not. The study further tries to explore some effects of the expectations on TEYL. The study will only focus on teaching English to Young Learners in an English course in Yogyakarta. By using questionnaires and interviews as instruments, this study will investigate parents' expectations and related aspects.
