Standardization of Ideal Teachers as Perceived by
the Students
Agustin
Students
as an element of teaching and studying process are provided by so many kinds of
evaluation. Yet, evaluation to measure teacher teaching ability seems to be
very limited. This situation has led the teachers to loose their chances to
develop their professional skills. The study reported here tries to offer an
alternative of evaluating teacher classroom performance in the form of Student
Classroom Observation (SCO). The research was conducted to find out types of
input to be gained through SCO based on student perspective. It was also
dedicated to get the student’s and the observed teacher’s perception on SCO. The
data were collected through student observation form, questionnaire as well as
probing interview. The result of the study shows that students are right people
to evaluate teacher’s classroom performance since they are not only people who ‘watch
the show’ but also ‘feel the show’. It also indicates that the students have
their own standard of ideal teacher. The finding of the study is expected to
significantly contribute to the standardization of ideal teachers based on
students’ perception.
