Adopting Practical Points
of Quality Management and Standardization to Improve Teaching English
Tjang
Kian Liong
This workshop emphasizes that teaching English should
be started by defining specific objectives to attain. A very important issue
here is that teachers of English in
Tampubolon (2001) also mentions that if
the teaching processes are not interesting, the students will feel bored and
reluctant to join the classes, but if the students are interested and
satisfied, different benefits can be obtained both by the students and the
educational institution (page 70). Thus, the “processes” of teaching English
should also be planned and conducted well.
This workshop also discusses how to improve and
maintain the quality of education processes and how to maintain students’ (or
customers’) satisfaction. The approach is through the implementation of some
relevant theories taken from the Total Quality Management and through the
standardization of the English lessons in the areas of lessons planning, teaching
methods, materials, equipment, and evaluation systems. One very main idea is
“to write what you do and do what you write” in relations to English teaching,
accompanied by sustainable improvement
