Competence-based Materials for Craft, Supervisory and Managerial Levels of Hotel Employees

ESP materials are very crucial in the teaching & learning process. They have become a great concern among ELT teachers and educators because of the very limited avalability in market and the expensive price of imported ELT materals, Marpaung (1994). There are problems which arise relating to the match between materials and the teaching learning objectives.  The materials do not always match with the teaching objectives and there is no course book which is totally suited to a particular teaching situation, Cunningsworth (1984).  There is also a tendency for ESP teachers to fall into teaching EGP or even EOP (English for Obscure Purposes). Instead of teaching ESP, teachers tend to teach grammar, structure, meaning of words out of context, language games, translation, etc.
