Evaluating English CBC Textbooks: Some Guidelines
for EFL Teachers

Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) introduced by Pusat
Kurikulum (2001) is expected to revise the 1994
Curriculum. The objectives of English CBC are to develop students’
communication skills, to understand the English language system, cultural
understanding, and to develop students’ general knowledge through English. To
meet all the objectives of English CBC teachers have to provide good textbooks
to facilitate students’ learning. Textbooks also support teachers by providing
really made presentation materials, ideas for teaching different topics,
reading texts, listening passages, dialogues, etc. Since textbooks are
considered to be important, teachers are required to have the knowledge on how
to select good textbooks to make the teaching and learning process in the
classroom easier, enjoyable, and interesting for the students.
