Providing Grammar-Based Assignments to Minimize Learners Errors in Writing

This paper reports an investigation of the implementation of GBAs (Grammar-Based Assignments) to reduce the incidence of learners’ grammatical errors in writing in Indonesia. The results indicate that the assignments successfully decreased the number of learners’ errors on the use of verb phrases and complex sentences. Some improvement also appeared on the use of pluralization and articles. In conclusion, the GBAs can be recommended as a possible strategy for improving learners’ grammatical competence within the framework of writing proficiency without violating the rhetorical aspects of writing instructions.
