Technology
Literacy in ELT within the Indonesian Context
Antonius
Suratno
Technology has been part of our
day-to-day life, not to mention in the English Language Teaching context in Indonesia.
In spite of the slow response to the offer of technology, ELT in Indonesia
should realise that it is now already time to disseminate literacy technology
in ELT. This is mainly because there is a lot of potential role that it can
play to help make a change in the current practice of language teaching. Thus,
in such a technological advancement, it becomes unlikely for the ELT to isolate
or alienate itself from the current and future innovations of technology. This
paper is trying to define what literacy is supposed to mean, to show why
technological literacy is a must, how it can be disseminated and how to
encourage anyone committed to the world of ELT to be more well aware of the need to
systematically introduce a technological
literacy in ELT and to slowly keep
abreast of it in the daily practice of teaching and learning English.
