The main purpose of this study is to develop a model of reading program consisting of assessment, training, and self-access reading and learning center (SARLC). The assessment was designed to see the students’ reading and study skills before and after the training. The training was carried out to accelerate these two aspects of learning. SARLC itself provides multiple genres of reading materials including audio-visual media that could be accessed freely. The model was applied to twenty-three high school students in Palembang for thirty days, two-and-a-half hours per day. During the training the students were trained to apply different techniques of reading comprehension and study skills and urged to use SARLC based on the topics discussed in class. To check whether the application of the model was running as it was designed, the students were evaluated using tests and reading records. The results showed that there was a significant acceleration of students’ reading and study skills and there was a positive attitude toward reading. Thus, the proposed model of reading program either conceptually or practically plausible to apply in any content area reading.
