Utilizing Class and Student Blogs for Teaching Academic and Technical
Writing at ITB

Weblogs, or blogs for short, were created as a tool
for people to create online journals without the need of any programming
experience or knowledge. Although not originally intended for use in EFL
classes, blogs have immense potential as an extremely valuable tool for the
teaching of writing. This paper describes how the use of blog helps students
in developing their writing competence. The advantages of blogs for both
teachers and students are also discussed. The result of short questionnaires on
student perspective in using class blog will also be reported. The ideas
presented are based on undergraduate academic and technical writing classes at
ITB.
