Understanding and Learning to Write Recount through Journal Writing

One of the important features of the Competence-Based Curriculum (CBC) is the use of various types of texts to help students learn English. This workshop addresses ‘recount’ as one of the text types emphasised in the new curriculum. It also highlights the potential of journal writing in helping English learners to learn to write this type of text. In this workshop, participants will be involved in exploring the characteristics of ‘recount’ and in analysing several sample entries of student journal writing. They will also be provided with some practical insights in order that they can use journal writing in their own writing classes.
