CD Rom Course Reader: Using Computer Technology to Enhance Autonomous Learning

Computer technology has developed very fast. However, the use of computer in language learning has not been developed well in Indonesia. This paper is an attempt to apply computer in language learning. CD-ROM or CD read only memory is one of the computer hard wares that could be very useful to enhanced autonomous learning. It enables users to retrieve   large size, written, sound, pictorial or video data from a compact disc. Therefore, learners could decide on what to learn. Course reader is a compilation of teaching materials for a certain course or subject prepared by the teacher or lecture. CD-ROM Course Reader is a course reader saved into a compact disc. There are several advantages of CD-ROM course reader compare to the paper based course reader. Learners will be more autonomous in learning because it can provide link to the internet that in turns will enable learners to search for original materials. It will boost the learner’s motivation as well. It will engage the learner’s motivation for they can find the subject of their own interest and work on it in their own way. CD-ROM course reader is also relatively cheap compared to the based paper one. In this paper I will discus the advantages and show how to develop CD-ROM course reader. It is one media to enhance more autonomous learning.
