Revisiting Language
and Culture in English Language Teaching (ELT)
Yazid Basthomi
Language and culture are
inseparable. This notion, hence, has implications for English language teaching
(ELT) in the sense that English is not
the native language of the learners. As the English language is culture-bound,
it always brings about cultural implications on ELT. The discussion covers emerging
realisation of the importance to address culture within the business of
language teaching, including ELT, aspects of culture to be brought into ELT, and the current perspectives on
the matters.
