The Snape Family crest has become a well known symbol in the magical community, residing not only on their many possessions but also on the prestigious Merlin’s Cauldron (Annual award for excellence in potions, instituted by Julianus Brutus Snape, 1723), thought by most to be the highest honor for a Potions Master. Snapes have achieved this honor countless times due to individual achievements. |

On a Royal blue background
cross a dagger and wand, symbolizing the family’s fighting spirit and magical
abilities. The blood dripping from the dagger shows the sacrifices, wounds,
and deaths they have endured, while the sparks issuing from the wand denote
the power of the bloodline and it’s motley of talents. Before them, a black
serpent winds around a white lily, entwining the other three aspects of
the shield. |
| The snake not only notes the familiy's long standing relationship
with (ant attendance in) Slytherin. but also emphasizes the darkness that
seems to forever surround the family (as well as the families ability to
strike back at unthinkable evils and overcome them). The lily at the center
of the crest symbolizes the core of the family, both of which grow and flourish
between conflict and power, wizards and muggles, eternally surrounded by
darkness. The Family gem, emerald, can be located above each of their crests,
as well as in the eye of the serpent. Snape |
