Last winter I set out to write one of those "five things that never happened to 'x'" fics. I never did (I have an established track record of letting fiction languish unfinished for months or years), but I did end up with a series of "What if?" AU ficlets, all based off of quotations from renaissance drama (two from Shakespeare, one from Christopher Marlowe).
