EL SALVADOR EARTHQUAKE OF 2001
The Nolasco-Rivers/Marroquin/Garay Family of Ann Arbor, Michigan in conjunction with the Ann Arbor Interfaith Council for Peace and Justice and the SHARE FOUNDATION in San Francisco, California are working together to raise desparately needed money for victims of the January 13, 2001 El Salvador Earthquake

The SHARE Foundation, a faith-based, ecumenical organization, has worked in El Salvador for 20 years to support refugee and resettled communities struggling to find a way out of subsistence poverty. SHARE provided emergency relief to the communities of the Central Coast after hundreds of homes and crops were
  destroyed in floods related to Hurricane Mitch in late 1998. SHARE also provided emergency relief to affected communities after the El Salvador earthquake of 1986.

The earthquake In El Salvador has left thousands homeless, hundreds missing: The Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti Salvadoran Community and Humanitarian Groups Organize Relief Effort. In response to the major earthquake that shook  El Salvador on Saturday, January 13, 2001 at roughly 11:30 AM, Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti  Salvadorans, SHARE Foundation and the Interfaith Council for Peace and Justice are organizing to help those affected by the tragedy.

Organizer
Sylvia Nolasco, a Salvadoran who lives in Ann Arbor, stated;

"This is another terrible tragedy that the people of El Salvador have suffered. Although the exact magnitude of problem is unclear, we know that tens of thousands of people have lost their homes and are without basic needs of food, medicine, and potable water. We ask for the solidarity and support of all concerned organizations, churches, and individuals in the Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti and Metro Detroit Area. We ask people to contact President Clinton and your Members of  Congress to ask if they can help immediately by sending emergency relief."

Organizers in the effort are preparing a series of events and activities to support those affected by the quake. Plans are being prepared to reach out to area organizationsand churches to request funds for relief efforts in El Salvador
and to collect medicines to send to those in need.
