| How can I just let you walk away?
Just let you leave without a trace? Ginny wanted to say something. She needed to say something. Harry was standing before her, his bags packed, his glasses tearstained, his expression grim, and his face pallid. He didnt want to leave. She didnt want him to leave. But she couldnt say anything. The fate of the world was lying in Harrys hands. Who was she to stop it? When I stand here taking every breath Youre the only one who really knew me at all She breathed deeply in and out as Harrys brilliant green eyes stared down into her large brown ones. Ill be home, he whispered. It was a futile attempt to reassure her, but they both knew the eventual outcome of Harrys mission. Face down Voldemort. What were the odds of his returning? All Ginny could do was offer her complete support. In doing so, she wrapped her arms around Harrys chest and pressed her soft cheek into the fabric of his robes. He closed his eyes tightly, not allowing any more tears to emit. He pressed his lips to the top of her silky red hair and wrapped her tight into his body. It wasnt the time or the place to think about it, but ever since he was twelve, it had always seemed like he and Ginny were built to be together. Their bodies meshed so well, their hands always melted together, their lips always sang. It was perfection. It was bliss. It was killing him. How can you just walk away from me? When all I can do is watch you leave? Ginnys sobs werent going to do any good. She picked her head up off of Harrys chest and fought them back. She didnt dare pull out of his arms, however. That was one thing she couldnt do. Not yet. There was nothing she would ever be able to say to make it not hurt. He had to do it. The war was getting increasingly worse, witches and wizards were dying, Muggles were being killed in the streets, and she knew not to stop it. She was just Ginny Weasley. She had fallen in love with the famous, but oh-so-dangerous Harry Potter, naively. Of course, she would never regret it, and neither would Harry. There was too much in their past, too much she would have had to give up. Cause weve shared the laughter and the pain And even shared the tears Youre the only one who really knew me at all Being that horribly foolish girl she was when only eleven, she followed Harry around like a lost puppy, and of course it had bothered him. Who wouldnt be bothered, especially when it was your best mates little sister? But then she had stumbled onto the diary and lost herself to its power. How could she have been so stupid? It wasnt like the normal Virginia Weasley to succumb to something so willingly. She had seven older brothers. Resistance was obligatory. She might have been under a curse, but she knew what had happened in the Chamber of Secrets. Harry held her hand, comforted her, he was right next to her She felt the heat of his body pressed up against the icy frigidness of her own. It was like two puzzle pieces but he would never, ever, in a million years figure this out. It was Ginny, Rons little sister. He was far too dense to pick up on the fact that their forms were built for one another. So take a look at me now Cause theres just an empty space Harry raised his hand timidly to Ginnys face and swept her bangs out of her doey brown eyes. What are you thinking? he asked, his voice quavering. She sighed and looked up at him. She didnt want her eyes to fill up with tears again and by doing this, she had to get her mind off of his leaving. I was thinking about the first time I realized you and I were meant to be together. He smiled and looked down at her hand. The Chamber he whispered. I didnt realize it for a few years, but I knew that was the defining moment. Ive always loved you, Gin. I just never really understood it. And then it happened. The tears came flooding forward again. You cant leave me, Harry. Who am I without you? Theres nothing left here to remind me Just the memory of your face Oh, Gin, he said, kissing her face and pressing his cheek against her forehead. Youre everything. Youre everything. Youve got your brothers, youve got Hermione, youve got your Mum and your Dad, youve got everything. You have our love, Gin. Thats something that will never go away. You have our love as well. Thats what Im holding onto, Ginny. Thats all I need to get me through this. As long as I have that, I dont need anything else. So take a look at me now Cause theres just an empty space Youre not going to lose me, he said aggressively, taking her fingers off of his face. Dont act like this is the last time youre ever going to see me. Im going to fight Voldemort and win, and then Im coming home. And you coming back to me is against the odds And thats what Ive gotta face She wrenched her fingers out of his grasp and pleaded with herself. No no I must stay strong. I have to accept this. I have to accept this. Gin, dont talk like Im going to die! Im coming back to you. Ginny looked up at him, batting her long eyelashes. This was something that always made Harry weak in the knees. You know how many nights Ive lain awake, thinking about this? Weve known for a month about this, and I havent gotten a decent nights sleep since. Ive stayed in bed, thinking about life without you. Ive tried to come to terms with that possibility. Harry was overcome with anger. Virginia! I will not have you think like that! Its that kind of thinking that will make it harder to deal with when the time does come. Im not trying to be negative, Harry, Im trying to be realistic. Dont be thick, she scolded. I just dont want you to be disappointed when you cant see me again. Gin, no matter what happens, Im going to see you again. You might not be able to see me. I wish I could just make you turn around Turn around and see me cry Once again, and much to her chagrin, Ginny burst into tears. Dont talk like that! Dont talk like that! I dont want you to die, Harry. I want you to come back to me! I want you to come home into my arms, where youll always be safe! Youre all I have. Youre the only one who knows me in that special way. Dont leave me. Harry pressed his lips to Ginnys forehead. Dont do that to me now. Dont break down on me, Ginny Weasley. You are the strongest person I know, stronger than your brother even. You cant give up, thats why Im still holding onto to the hope I have. The hope that when I get home from this, when Voldemort is gone, youll be here waiting for me. Your love is all I need to bring me back out of this hateful war. Promise me it will always be here. Theres so much I need to say to you So many reasons why Youre the only one who really knew me at all I promise you, Harry. With everything thats in me. Ill be here. Still in their tight embrace, Harry let his eyes travel down toward hers and more tears streamed down his face at the sight of her own wet eyes. I love you, Ginny Weasley. Oh, Harry, was the moan that escaped her lips before Harry captured them. Their kisses were always magical, something they both craved more than anything in the entire world. Running her fingers ardently through his messy black hair, she relished in any touch she could get before he was gone. So take a look at me now Cause theres just an empty space Theres nothing left here to remind me Just the memory of your face Finally, Harry pulled away from her, and as she closed her eyes to allow more tears to seep down her cheeks, he gently caressed every part of her soft face. Remember, darling, he whispered. Hold onto our love, and I will be back. You are all I need, and Ill be home to love you again. He stepped away from her, staring into her face for a few minutes. After they both mouthed, I love you, Harry Disapparated with a pop, and was gone. Ginny broke into sobs. So take a look at me now Cause theres just an empty space But to wait for you is all I can do And thats what Ive gotta face The wait had been far too long. The Daily Prophet was not allowed to print certain news, but surely she would have heard something if Harry had been killed. Ron and Hermione both worked for the Ministry, so she had access to news before it was even printed. It had been four months. There was still no word. She had her mother to help comfort her, and she had her wonderfully large family that was still steadily growing. She had just turned twenty years old, but she was still young and scared. In the dark of the night, she still needed someone to tell her that everything was going to be okay. After five months, there was still no word. Hermione was always very comforting. No news is good news, she would say in a fake, cheerful voice. She was trying to be positive, but couldnt be. It was impossible. Ron was normally in the office to avoid reality. Ginny had to be there for her family. She wasnt the only one suffering. Six months. Nothing. Take a good look at me now Cause Ill still be standing here And then, seven months to the day after Harry had left her standing on the platform in Kings Cross, there was news. Voldemort was gone. There was eruption within the wizarding world. It was an even bigger party than it had been twenty years before. Voldemort was gone and all of his followers had been killed in the war. If there were any Death Eaters still around, they were deep in hiding. Every Auror in the Ministry had been sent out to find all supporters of the Dark Lord. Everyone was gone. Ginny was exuberant. Harry had done it! His deed for the Ministry had not been in vain after all. People were now free to live their lives normally. No one had to live in fear that at any moment, one or more of their family members could be slaughtered. It was over. The reign of darkness was gone. But where was Harry? Had he died in the fight? Surely they would have known. Had he gone missing? Why was there no word? Wouldnt he send a message to let them know he was alive? And you coming back to me Is against the odds But thats the chance I gotta take Ginny sat in her living room on an unimportant evening, reviewing past events at length in her head. The reign of the Dark Lord was over, everyone was happy, and freedom was finally achieved. However, Ginnys heart was weighed down. Wasnt love strong enough to overcome all? That alone could have beaten Him. Did it beat Harry as well? Tears flooded her cheeks. It had been against the odds for him to come back to her. It was foolishness to even entertain the notion that he could still be alive. It was such a nasty, brutal war. It was a miracle there were any survivors. Harry Potter, the heart and soul of the entire war, couldnt have been as lucky to escape. The door opened. A breeze caught Ginnys hair and swept it up against her face. Her eyes darted suddenly toward the opening of the room. The figure was leaning against it tiredly. The tears of sorrow she had been crying quickly changed into that of relief and happiness. It was Harry. He was home. Take a look at me now |
