Im coming. I promise, Maria said, tapping Regan reassuringly on the shoulder Thursday May 16th after the last bell had rung. I just have to go home and my friends going to meet me there. Well be there before you guys even get on the field. I promise.

Regan looked at her sympathetically. Thanks.

No problem Hon, I want to see that pent up aggression! Itll be fun! she joked.

Okay, Regan smiled full blast, a thing she had missed doing terribly.

Well, Im going to head out of here, so Ill leave you to Chloe. Ill be back by quarter to four, she said, taking her keys out and leaving.

Okay! Wish me luck! Regan yelled.

You dont need it! Maria yelled back, and gave her a wave behind her head.

Regan sighed, picked up her duffel bag, and headed toward the locker room. She had an hour and a half before the game started and nearly an hour before she had to be ready to play. All she needed to do was get her mind off of how nervous she was going to be during the game. Normally, she wasnt so nervous about playing a game, but Maria was going to be there, and for some reason, she felt as though she had to play her best for her best friend.

Chloe met up with Regan halfway down the hall, in the same soccer uniform Regan was donning.

Nervous?

As always, Chloe smiled at Regan, hoping to give her some confidence before the game.

Yeah, well, we always do our best and weve managed only one loss this season. Were pretty damn good if I do say so myself, Regan boasted.

You got that right, Chloe agreed.

They smiled at each other and excitedly ran down the hall toward the locker room. They were going to drop their stuff off there, do a little conditioning and running before the game, and then come back at three-fifteen and get ready. It was their normal schedule for any soccer game, and they were pumped up as they ever would be.

They did five laps around the school, stopped for a drink, and did five more. After the laps, they sat down in the lobby and stretched each other out, while talking wildly about their days. Running and getting pumped for games was always something that got their mouths moving, and they found themselves talking on the bench during the game sometimes.

During their workout together and stretching, they ultimately began getting into an in depth conversation about things.

So how are you and Quince anyway? I dont even remember you telling me what was going on in that department, Regan brought up.

Oh, Chloe said, blushing furiously. After prom, we spent most of the time at my house in my room talking. We just held each other and talked until about six in the morning. He left a little bit after that.

Thats it? Regan asked, in a joking furious way.

Yes thats it! Chloe said defiantly.

Give me some more details. Sure you held each other and talked all night, but tell me what you talked about.

Chloe sighed, and looked up toward the ceiling. Everything and then some. I told him all about me and he told me all about him. We talked about relationships, and falling in love, and our experience when it comes to our relationships. We talked about future goals, our dreams, our hopes, and everything that goes along with it. We joked with each other; we talked about who weve loved, and how much fun prom was. We talked about how we really felt for each other. Oh there is so much we talked about that I cant even begin to tell you.

Regan smiled widely at her. You should see the look on your face.

Chloe looked up unexpectedly, as if torn from her thoughts. Huh?

You should see your face. You are so in love, she told her.

Chloes jaw dropped open. I am not.

You so are.

After a little bit of bickering back and forth, Chloe finally relented and admitted she was falling in love.

Hes so unbelievably charming. I cant tell you how strongly I feel for him. We were discussing boyfriend and girlfriends, and he told me how much hes wanted someone to be with him. He kept telling me he wanted to be with me, and I told him how much I wanted to be with him.

And? Regan persisted.

Weve been dating ever since.

Youre not boyfriend and girlfriend? Regan exclaimed in total surprise.

Well, we dont want to make it seem middle school, but yes. We are boyfriend and girlfriend.

Regan squealed in delight. Finally! You didnt have to take so long to tell me! she exclaimed, giving her friend a pat on the back.

Yeah, hes really amazing you know, she sighed. Hes so good to me. Hes the best person to talk to. You should hear some of the things he tells me.

Trust me, Regan smiled softly to herself. I can imagine.

Chloe smiled at her sympathetically. How are you doing?

Im doing okay, she answered quickly.

Id like to believe it, but I just cant. Seriously, are you okay? I mean, you keep to yourself a whole lot, and youre always writing in that journal. Is there anything you want to talk about? Chloe asked, sitting down to stretch out her legs some more.

Not in particular, I mean, nothing I havent said already.

Well, you can say whatever you need to. As long as it helps, Chloe offered, leaning over her right leg.

I dont know what it is I just keep thinking that if I block out all of my contact with guys whatsoever, that it wont hurt me as much in the end. Ive gotten burned so badly already that I dont know what I would do if it happened to me again.

I understand, Chloe said, nodding.

And even though I might meet someone that I like, Im afraid of getting hurt again. I couldnt put myself through it.

Yeah but Reggie, Chloe said, stopping her stretching to look at her friend seriously. Youre going to be even more hurt if you dont realize that love isnt as bad as it has been. Someone will come along that will treat you right, and that wont break your heart as bad.

Regan sighed and looked up at Chloe unhappily. But when is he going to come? And how long is it going to be before I go crazy without him?
