It was near the end of her sixth year at Hogwarts and she was desperate to get the night over. She looked at the bright diamond ring on her left hand and then gazed up into the darkness of the empty room. Tears filled her eyes. She was wearing the ring to show her secret love for Harry Potter. It was the ring he had given her for Christmas, the secret gift, the gift no one knew she�d received. That morning at breakfast, Harry had taken her aside and told her to meet him in this room that night. They had not kissed, hugged, or even touched in almost a month. It used to be that they could go through a few days before sneaking off to share a kiss. Sometimes, they were the only two awake in the common room and could embrace lovingly. It had been too long and Ginny knew that they were both suffering. She was sick and tired of hiding her love for Harry from the rest of the world. It wasn�t fair. She couldn�t go on pretending much longer. That was what she fully intended to tell Harry. The comfort of his hands on her back, soothing her was enough to stop the tears from flowing for a few seconds. She turned around and looked into his eyes. He looked like he was in a tremendous amount of pain. He had gone too long without touching her as well. And that�s when it began. She took him in, running her hands through his messy hair, feeling the silky texture of his cheeks, crying outright as he let his trail of kisses go down her neck and further. It was then that it didn�t matter how old they were. They knew within every fiber of their being, this was right. What they were doing was not a mistake. They had hid their love for so long that it was moments like these when they had to savor every second. It was a first for them, and they knew the person they were sharing it with would be the only one ever. He really wanted to say what it meant when his father had given it to his mother. He couldn�t find the courage to say it, though. �Harry?� He had been silent for too long, wrapped up in his thoughts. He started at the sound of her voice and took her left hand in his. �Ginny, I think you know what this ring means.� �I�d like to hear you say it, Harry.� He played with the ring and then brought her hand to lips. He kissed her fingertips and sighed briefly. �I love you more than anything, Ginny. I want you to know that I�d never stop loving you for any reason, even when I�m gone. If we can ever find a way, I�d like us to get married. That�s what the ring means.� Ginny looked at it one more time before burying her head into Harry�s chest and sobbing even more. Did I say that?� �Yes. When we were at the Burrow together. You said some day we�re going to be able to just run away together.� �I did say that, didn�t I?� �Did you mean it, Harry?� Hasta manana Always be mine �Virginia, when have you ever known to me to speak falsely?� Ginny looked into Harry�s eyes then and nearly gasped. They were greener than the grass on the lawn of Hogwarts and twinkled more than the stars in the heavens. Yet Ginny hadn�t noticed until just then how much they gave him away. All of the love and passion he held for her was right there to see. �I know, Harry. You�d never lie to me.� �Which is why I want to tell you my reason for asking you up here. It certainly wasn�t to take advantage of you. What we just did, Ginny will never be a mistake to me. I didn�t stop myself because I know how much I love you.� �I know you�d never take advantage of me. I have to fight against Voldemort. I have to rid the world of him once and for all.� Ginny was completely speechless. She wasn�t sure whether to protest or acquiesce to what he was saying. Everything was a blur. It was all going so fast. �I don�t want to leave you, Ginny, but I have to. I have to go and fight. I don�t want you to sit around and wait for me. I want you to live like I�m here, like I�m around you all the time, and like at any moment, I could walk in. Don�t spend the next few months just waiting for me to come back.� Ginny couldn�t believe what she was hearing. He was already talking like he was dead. �What are you saying? That you�re going to die?� Harry turned away from her. �There�s no guarantee I�m going to live, Ginny.� Ginny put her hand on his shoulder. �Harry�� He turned around then, taking his glasses off and staring directly at her. He didn�t want to be barricaded by anything. Heart to heart, soul to soul. �I love you more than life itself, Ginny. I am going to fight Voldemort for you� for us. I am going to get rid of him so we can be together for the rest of our lives. I don�t want to have to hide my love for you, Ginny. I want everyone to know how happy you make me. Seeing your face every day gives me strength, Gin. I don�t want to lose you and I certainly don�t want to go away and fight Voldemort when there�s a possibility that I won�t return. Do you understand? That�s why I�m telling you not to mope around while I�m gone. Pretend that I�m still here, and look to my absence as my trying do away with the reason we have this secret.� Ginny nodded, pressing her forehead to his and wrapping her arms around his neck. �And then when you get back�?� �We will get married.
