This stewardship program for the Catholic schools of the Diocese of El Paso was created to provide students with the opportunity to begin a life-long pattern of stewardship in the use of their time, talent and treasure. The project mirrors the diocese's annual PROGRESS appeal in that students are given a flyer on stewardship which provides space for them to commit to a project to use their time and talent and then to use their treasure to pledge a given amount annually to the Diocese of El Paso Catholic Schools Scholarship Trust Fund in gratitude for their own Catholic education. Students have a series of formal lessons on stewardship and then given the flyers to complete as to how they will use their time, talent and treasure. The annual PROGRESS appeal is used for the ministries of the diocese, the Student Stewardship in Action program will be used to build up the principal so that other students will be able to afford the same opportunity they are in receiving a Catholic education.
The program is a joint effort on the part of the Office of Education and the Office of Stewardship and development - part of PROGRESS. Stewardship as a way of life is being promoted by the diocese in the parishes and therefore, we are encouraging our students to begin a life-long pattern of giving. PROGRESS encourages the faithful to give 5% - 10% to their parish community, 3% to PROGRESS to fund the needs of diocesan ministries, and 2% to other charities of their choice. We are asking students to give their time and talent to various projects in the school and civic communities and to give $1 for each year that they have been in a Catholic school. |
