Movies I liked: Gattaca - many years into the future where instead of racial prejudice, we are judged by our genetic makeup. couples can now decide whether they want to concieve their child by natural means or selecting their qualities by making an appointment with the local doctor...vincent (played by ethan hawke) is a god child with an expected high risk of heart failure....no one wants someone like HIM for a job!...but he aspires to become one of the elite crew in Gattaca (kinda like NASA) as an astronaut....and is willing to seek any means to achieve his goal...[Interesting tadbits: Uma Thurman (as Irene, Vincent's love interest) and Ethan Hawke are actually married! G-A-T-T-A-C-A are the components of recombinant DNA strands.. =) ] Anna and the King - modern remake of the English governess that comes to teach the Siam (Thai) king's children english...and teach the King a lesson or two as well? ^^;; Mrs. Brown - been a long time since i saw this movie...but i remember it was a really poignant story about a scandal in the royal family during Queen Victoria's age Elizabeth - more historical genre....mmm... portrays struggle by Elizabeth to maintain her throne and bring the alleged glory of the Elizabethean Era to england~ The Legend of 1900 - a baby is abandoned on a cruise liner and proceeds to spend his entire life on the ship...becoming an extremely talented piano player...with this skill he has the chance to conquer the music world, to love, to have a family...etc...but many years later...a friend discovers the boat is about to be destroyed and suspects he's still onboard... American Beauty - when i first watched this movie...i was pretty shocked...with the drugs, the nudity, the psycho boy that just wouldn't put down the camera! ::cringes:: but later when we dicussed it in english class~ the beauty in the plastic bag...how simple and peacefully it allows itself to be grafted by the wind...the exploration of homosexuality and midlife crisis...there really can be said to be beauty in all of that... Moulin Rouge - mm...this one is a bit nauseating in the beginning...lots of gaudy, flashy colors and whirling images...and madonna songs? but once it settles down and u get used to it....the love story between Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman is really quite sweet....rite elleN? haha.. mai feng sheng thinks Ewan's really swai~ *lol* Matrix - mm...all i can say is that i wished 'spark'? would have lived longer...too much black and too much green *lol* =) presents a very interesting philosophy on the world and its 'reality' - what is behind the facade? is there something behind the wall? beyond or sight and vision!? Cruel Intentions - I watched both the old AND new versions of this movie - no i'm not a fanatic or nething...but we watched the old one in English 10H last yr (haha...weren't we all so corrupted by Ms. McDowell's movies? ::shudders::)... quite amusing tho really~ =) mm....bittersweet symphony is a good song btw!!~ Serendipity - iono...it was highly improbable, completely coincidental, totally incomprehensible...but so utterly sweet with flashing images of pattering snow and glitter-bright stars... Mrs. Doubtfire - mm...need i mention? ^^ i really loved this movie when i was younger...Robin williams taking on the otherwise embarrasing role of being a woman housekeeper to be with the children he loves...::sniff:: ::sniff:: hehe.. and also diss Pierce Brosnan.. but..we'll save that story for another time... tata! =) A Beautiful Mind - just watched this pretty recently~ and like it alot...would explain more about the story but i'm afraid i'll give away certain elements so.. just watch it! >.< Men of Honor - v. touching.. =) yea yea i kno people have filmed about black segregation over and over and by this time you'd think directors would have had enuf of the story, but this one's really good leh~ so.. yea.. ^_^ MInority Report - Very cool utopian society-type scenario where crimes have been revented from happening by future-telling pre-cogs ...also a plus if you like Tom Cruise, but lala...Spielberg does an extremely nice job of special effects that are reminiscent of some of A.I and a few other of his recent films Toy Story 2 : I thought the first film was all right, but maybe it was just seeing it at a good time and with someone special...really really enjoyed the sequel~ couldn't help laughing the entire way through! hehehe... "I am your father!" humm... tho i don't quite get how they reconciliated with each other so quickly... strange, o well! Legally Blonde: haha.. i really loved this movie~ chao funny deh~ :) alan says it's not a movie to watch too many times, but it was def funny the first 1.5 times thru~ :) *** Decent/Didn't particularly favor: A Knight's Tale - the costumes were nice? =/ The Whole Nine Yards - this was just really brainless.. sorry... Final Fantasy - The Spirits Within - special effects-wise, it was wonderful...really amazed at what these people can do these days. Plot-wise/emotional/action-wise, not so cool. For an action film, there's not really an action element because people just kinda flop over when they're killed~ emotional-wise - lots of ppl thought it was chilly when they kiss....and plot - hmmm... saving the world? then again...i was still really impressed by the graphics, so if you're a fan of the game or like graphics, watch it bah! Ice Age - more inflight entertainment~ decent and relatively funny...but entirely predictable and no cutesy musical interludes~ The One - hmmm...no offense to Jet Li or anything...i'd like to give him a bit of credit, but this movie was just plain terrible... Spiderman - somehow i wasn't so inspired by this movie. sure, spiderman looks pretty cool flying through NYC and all, but it was a bit cheezy too to say the least. i dunno, maybe too high expectations for it or something? @ least Katie got to hear the song tho! =) Amelie - it was a cute idea...but somehow not very easy to watch...might have been the chinese subtitles i was squinting to read tho! :p
Movies...of the few i get to watch! :)
