About the Webmistress

Hi! My name is Emily Schlegel and I created this web page for anyone who knows someone with or has ADHD themselves. I thought that it was very interesting to learn about ADHD because I have it myself and I think that it's exciting to learn new things about me. I used to take ritalin when I was younger. Then they put me on Adderall XR when I was in the 7th grade because we heard of a story about a little boy who took ritalin and had a heart attack. When I was on Adderall XR, I lost a lot of weight. I went from 130 pounds to 96. I thought it was great, but really it wasn't. I looked too skinny. Now they have me on Strattera, which I personally think is a very good medication to take when you have ADHD. It helps me to focus on my tasks of the day and I get them accomplished.
The process of finding out about whether or not I had ADHD wasn't that hard at all. When I was in the 4th grade, my teacher could tell that I was having a lot of problems with the other children. She went to church with a children's doctor whose name is Gary Olson, M.D. She talked with him about me to see what she should do. He suggested that I should be tested for ADHD. In the 4th grade, I started going to a different school than my own for about an hour to be tested for ADHD. They did all kinds of different sorts of things. The one test that I still remember taking was the hearing test. It was my favorite. They put headphones upon my head and I would listen for a beep. Every time I heard the beep, I got to throw little wooden pieces into a box on the floor. I thought that was pretty fun.
