Understanding Your Rights

There are several federal laws that may provide help to individuals with ADHD. A good starting place to understand the rights of your child is to learn more about the following three laws:

  1. Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973
  2. Prohibits programs that receive federal funds from discriminating against children with disabilities

  3. Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)
  4. Requires that eligible students receive access to special education services

  5. American with Disabilities Act (ADA)
  6. Similar to Section 504 above, but applies to a broader range of organizations
