Chief Hauptman joined the Elmira Heights Police Department in 1968, after graduating from Erie County Community College and being employed in a local Elmira industry as a Production Engineer. He has risen through the ranks of Patrolman and Sergeant until reaching the rank of Police Chief in 1992. The Chief is married to his wife, Teri and they have four children and four grandchildren.
