1.                                                              The First Question

1.a. Who is the narrator in Mawsim al-Hijra ilaa al-Shamaal  ( type of narrator 

              ,type of person and type of character)? Who says in this novel “ I am no 

              Othello, Othello was a lie”? Explain the situation in which this quote is

              spoken and its symbolic meaning in detail.

1.b.    Who is  Salaama  Muusaa?  Why was Bernard Shaw his “ideal artist” –

            ‘prophet’ ?  Elaborate.

1.c.  What are the functions of using myths and images from religions in Eliot’s The       

                  Waste Land- and al-Sayyaab ’s  Shanaashiil  Ibnat  al-Chalabii” and 

                  ‘Christ  After Crucifixion’?  Illustrate with  examples from the poems.

1.d   Define ‘dramatic illusion’ . How does Yusuf Idris in Al-farafeer try “ to remove 

                  from the readers mind the idea of dramatic illusion”. Elaborate with                 

                   detailed examples.  Does this play belong to the Theatre of the Absurd?

                    Explain why in detail.

1.e..   Who has introduced a third language “ Lugha thalitha” in Arabic drama ? 

                   Elaborate with examples of the plays

2.b.   Who are   listeners or “You”? What are the  titles of the texts- literary works?

2.c. Analyze them and show how  these quotes    relate to the four titles.

2.e. Who are the writers ( Names).         

 

The First Quote

The  Third Quote   “That corpse you planted last year in the garden,

                                  Has it begun to  sprout ? Will  it  bloom this year ?”

                                

 

The Fourth Quote :     Did they not crucify me yesterday?

                                       Behold!  I am in my grave…..

                                      And Judas’ Friends ?....

 

2.f.  How are the images or  themes of  the British soldier,  anti- British 

           demonstrations  , and seeking independence from Britain literally  presented in            

           the first and  longest part of Mahfouz’s the trilogy ? Elaborate with examples

           from incidents from this novel( mention the title of this novel).

2.f.1. Who is the   narrator? Describe his view point(s) in detail.
