Textbook:  You will not be issued a textbook to take home in this class.  Although, we will be using ¡Dime Dos!, Spanish For Mastery 2, and Vox Spanish-English Dictionary in class as I deem necessary.  Textbook may be checked out as needed.

Special Materials Required:  1 ½ in. 3-ring binder with dividers labeled wit the following categories:

                        Class Information and Objectives

Handouts

Class Notes and Practice Activities

Worksheets

Songs

Miscellaneous

Your notebook must be brought to class every day.

Goals:  Our main goal is to help students to gain both language ability and an understanding of the many Hispanic cultures.  I believe that in order to truly understand a culture you must understand the culture that exists where the language is spoken.

Course Objectives:  Students will be required to write down daily objectives and essential questions that will describe what we are studying for that day.

Our Spanish program includes knowledge from each of the 5 C’s of Spanish:

Communication

The communication standard stresses the use of language for communication in "real life" situations. It emphasizes "what students can do with language" rather than "what they know about language."

Cultures

Experiencing other cultures develops a better understanding and appreciation of the relationship between languages and other cultures, as well as the student's native culture.

Connections

World languages instruction must be connected with other subject areas. Content from other subject areas is integrated with world language instruction through lessons that are developed around common themes.

Comparisons

Students are encouraged to compare and contrast languages and cultures. They discover patterns, make predictions, and analyze similarities and differences across languages and cultures.

Communities

Extending learning experiences from the world language classroom to the home and multilingual and multicultural community emphasizes living in a global society.
